yea, i bought my '91 for 5,300 with 94k miles on it. but for the year of the car you will find dings and dents on most of the Z's. but yea, seats are gonna cost you and depending on what color it is the paint could cost you dearly. i agree w/ the other guy, drop the price down but if he wont budge, just wait till you find one in a little better condition. its worth the wait.

Go to the Kelley Blue Book and search for prices (see link below).
Just to give you some ideas, I searched for the value of a 300ZX in Florida with only 5,000 miles (as you stated the engine is new). These are the results:
300ZX TT
Excellent $6,165
Good $5,700
Fair $5,110
300ZX Coupe
Excellent $5,545
Good $5,105
Fair $4,560
300ZX 2+2
Excellent $5,695
Good $5,255
Fair $4,685
Because the paint is bad, same with some of the interior (seats) but the engine is new, the owner is trying to compensate and make some money. As long the rest of the vehicle is ok, and very important, all the electronics and cables and harness, then you won’t be able to lower that price too much.
Otherwise, if there are more problems, try to give him a lower offer, like $4,000 or so, and see what happens.

Rebuild the seats replace the carpets and trim $1,000 repaint the car back to like new 3,500 or more. Now you have spent about as much as a low mileage good looking 300ZX. I will say it again, Buy the very best example of the car you can afford. Or buy a 5k Z and spend three months fixing everything. I just hope you still have something to drive while you wait.

The seats will cost you a little bit but if your were able to talk him down to 4k atleast, i would most defently do it because it is well worth it. it is a hella fast car and the motors last pretty long. if you like to take off fast go fast most deffently do it.

Talk him down to $4K or even better $3,500. while the car is ready to drive mechanically, the cosmetics will really cost you. For $5K, you can do better.
