then we don't miss out on anything!
(but I 100% believe it's true)

we live happy peaceful lifes, loving our spouses and being faithful to them.

We treat our brothers and sisters with Love while were alive.

We have hope for eternity, so at least we don't fear death.

We have someone to cast all our cares upon. (save a fourtune not having to go to shrinks)

list just go's on and on...to me it's a win win situation,

No, I think I lose a lot if it's all bunk, that is if Jesus didn't rise from the dead. I believe he did and that Jesus is the Son of God. I have staked my life on that belief.
But if something else is true or if nothing is true, personally I'd rather follow out the implications of that.
Following Christ is not the key to a good life or the secret of happiness. But following Christ is the way of love. That love took Jesus himself to the cross and to the resurrection.
I'm content to keep believing, keep following, keep trusting.

sounds great in theory but....

we live happy peaceful lives, loving our spouses and being faithful to them.

We treat our brothers and sisters with Love while were alive.
Unfortunately there are some Christians who use Christianity to enslave and abuse, saying it is the will of God

We have hope for eternity, so at least we don't fear death.
Oh yer

We have someone to cast all our cares upon. (save a fortune not having to go to shrinks)
OK! so there is one reason. However I think Ill just pay some and get someone a lot less judgmental

You're assuming that the only options are that Christianity is true or that there is no consequence for what we believe. What if God hates people who accept things on faith, and punishes them with eternal hellfire? What if one of the other religions is correct, like Islam? Then Christians will fry.

It amazes me how you try to set your own rules about what is and isn't possible, without any justification, and then use that to try and create a false choice for others.

Also, all of those things that you mentioned are possible without being Christian. Except possibly saving a fortune on shrinks. That's a personal matter, and I'm sure that many people of faith still seek the aid of psychiatrists, just as many people of faith seek the aid of physicians. That depends on the individual's needs.

When I get caught up in trying to figure out what I believe and not believe, whether there really is an afterlife or not, etc., I come to this same conclusion. Being a Christian makes me a more peaceful, loving person, more compassionate, more forgiving.

Can this faith, this way of life, be wrong, if it brings about so many positives to me and my family?

Sure, there are Christians for whom Christianity does not bring about the things you describe. ("I went to Bible camp to learn how to become more judgmental," says Ned Flanders wife on the Simpsons). Perhaps atheists at this site and elsewhere should learn to attack not Christianity but rather narrow-minded people of all backgrounds.

For me and other people of faith, we will continue to surrender to the Spirit. There are far too many reasons to continue to do so.

What about those who have pinned all their hopes on heaven - won't they have lost a great deal?

Most Atheists don't fear death - they realize it's a natural progression of life, and they also tend to have happy peaceful lives with faithful spouses. I have found that it's only the religious who seem to fear death. And data has shown that more religious than atheists - per capita - get divorced and have cheating spouses.

Atheists also treat others around them with compassion, love and care - sometimes a great deal more than several Christians.

we have someone to cast our cares upon - without a need to see shrinks. We call those friends and family who actually care about us and wish to genuinely be of asistance. Again, scientific data shows that it is the religious who tend to seek mental help much more often than those who are non religious.

Seems like another win-win situation. Except we don't have the loss of an afterlife to pine over.

>I mean lets "pretend it's not true, all bunk. then we don't miss out on anything! (but I 100% believe it's true)

Let's admit it's, all bunk. You spend the entirety of life living a lie! (Which I 100% believe is true)

>we live happy peaceful lifes, loving our spouses and being faithful to them.

As do atheists

>We treat our brothers and sisters with Love while were alive.

As do atheists

> We have hope for eternity, so at least we don't fear death.

There is no proof of eternity, so you fearlessness of death is merely a form of self-delusion. Atheists TRULY do not fear death because we accept it for what it is. The end of life.

> We have someone to cast all our cares upon. (save a fortune not having to go to shrinks)

We rely on human beings to solve human problems, which is the only thing that EVER has. (ps - the red line means it's spelled wrong!)

> list just goes on and on...to me it's a win win situation,
agree?

No, because for every benefit you can show that religion has provided, I can point out two terrible things it has given to humanity.

Care to debate me?

EDIT:
> if believing (sic) in heaven makes me happy why do you want to ruin it for me.

Because belief in anything supernatural weakens our society as a whole. I'm not ruining your happiness, I'm freeing you from your self-induced delusion. Ever hear the expression "ignorance is bliss."? Refusing to examining things critically may *feel* good, but it allows people to be taken advantage of, and worse, it impedes the progress of our species.

Religion also suppresses knowledge. Take the the heliocentric model, which was denied for two centuries by the theocracy of Europe (of course except from the Churche's own sailors.) Galileo was imprisoned by the church for blasphemy, when all he was doing was stating what is now known to be common sense science.

It's a small step to go from believing heaven to faith healers, to the psychic hot line. Religion controls people through promise of reward, and threat of punishment, neither of which there is a single shred of evidence for. Do you want to spend you life being controlled by an ideology handed down through the centuries by unscrupulous, power hungry men? I don't.

That seems to me to be drawing the assumption that those who aren't christian do not live happy peaceful lives, or do not love and show faith to their spouses, etc. We who are not of the christian faith are still good people who believe in right and wrong and in the importance of loving others and there are many non-christians who believe in an after-life. thus your argument is moot. Christians are not the only ones capable of living in peace. If there is to be peace in the world it will come because people have finally learned to accept others for who they are not because everyone has been converted to the same religion and/or belief system.

Except that nothing you say is true only for Christians, or even more so for Christians than non-Christians.

Don't you know depressed Christians? I do - two sisters of mine. Don't you know Christians that have had failed marriages? I do -- quite a few of them. Don't you know non-Christians who treat their brothers and sisters with love? Again, I do.

Note that there is solid evidence that conservative Christians have higher divorce rates than liberal Christians and non-theists. See the link below.

I think you are just showing wishful thinking if you believe that Christianity really offers a significant advantage in these areas of life.

Errr, you don't need to believe in god to:

1) live happy peaceful lives
2) love your spouse
3) be faithful to your spouse
4) treat your brothers and sisters with love
5) have hope for eternity
6) not fear death
7) have someone to cast your cares upon

Do you understand my point?

Good Job Wilma! Unfortunately the probability that God exists is completely undefined. We know so little about the universe in general, and God in particular, that any attempt to place a number would be irrelevant. As such, the Wager doesn't even get off the ground
