It is natural that you should be torn between two opinions in this situation. As they say, "Blood is thicker than water." The key is whether they came to America legally or not. I don't think very many people have a problem with legal immigrants. The U.S. government will regulate the number that will come to the States if they come legally. We are all children of immigrants, technically. This is a melting pot nation! We are glad to have others from other nations. But, as with any other law, most people do not like it when others break the law. It is a simple matter of legal, or not!

Immigration policy should not be decided on racial or ethnic grounds, or we will end up turning immigration into a tussle between the races.

Furthermore, whatever the benefits of ethnic or racial diversity, we are already one of the most diverse countries in the world. It is not clear we need more of it. (And besides, who decides how much is enough or too little diversity?)

Though we often hear the mantra "Diversity is our strength," polls show that Americans of all ethnic backgrounds are less than convinced.

Almost everyone agrees that balkanization the deterioration of a population into warring ethnically defined political groups would be a bad thing.

Yet, even a cursory glance around can not fail to impress upon the observer that, as our country becomes more diverse, it is also becoming more politically balkanized. "Identity politics" is increasing not decreasing.

Why do we continue to pursue a policy that can only intensify this tendency to balkanization?

I can sympathize with you, but remember your parents did not
sneak into the country illegally.
These illegal immigrates are no different that a robber that
breaks into your house. They break in to steal items that
they have not earned - both illegal immigrates & robbers.
They can legally immigrate but chose the easy way in & they
refuse to learn to speak English - they want us to learn to speak Spanish. I assume your parents speak English & love the USA. They do not according to most television interviews & the ones I have spoken with. No amnesty!!

IT'S OK HUN. my husbands parents came from mexico 30 something years ago. only he still doesnt approve of illegal immigration. what your parents should probably realize is when they migrated here our country had a significantly less amount of people and prices on housing, food and everything is was lower. our economy could handle the amount of people living here 20-30 years ago. but now the status of people living here in america has almost doubled since then (which is A LOT) so prices have gone up and up. the more people who illegally migrate here and dont pay taxes, and recieve free services. it hurts us. including you and your future children... tell your parents they need to now think about you and their future grand childrens future. also not every illegal immigrant here is good for our country. there are a lot that illegally came here because they were going to be thrown in prison in mexico. i know i personally experienced one of these people. and he almost killed me. but luckly he was drunk and high on something so he was slow and i got away. he barely got in trouble for what he did to me. and he illegally migrated here because he didnt want to go to mexican prison for hurting someone. (i'm not sure if he killed the person or not)

Legal immigrants have been the cornerstone of this country. It is illegal immigrants with little to nothing to offer this country who should face the law as criminals. They violated our establishmen and give back so little.
But yes you can be in the middle

I feel that's it's okay to be anything you want to be. If you are in the middle, listen and hear what individuals have to say. This might help you decide to take a stance in the direction which you feel is correct.

Your ancestors worked their asses off in plantations, they didn't look for benefits off of taxpayers money and try not to assimilate into our culture but force theirs into ours.
