You should contact your local city hall to find out. Most places in the U.S. and Canada do not permit people to own indigenous wildlife without special permits.
While some people have had raccoons as pets, they aren't too common as they can be VERY difficult to train once they reach sexual maturity. Raccoons can grow up to be very dangerous and I certainly wouldn't recommend one as a pet. :)
If you would like to find a unique and unusual pet, why not do a search and see what you come up with? Then make sure to do your research! There are a variety of cool pets including the various reptiles and amphibians, skunks, African crows, ferrets, spiny mice, and so on!
Good luck!

Rule of thumb is NO!!!! They can carry rabies and the only way you'll know is when it's too late and your've been bit. Wild animals like racoons should never be kept, but if you find one turn it over to a wildlife center or a person with the Natural resources department in your area.

Yes you can keep a racoon for a pet. My dad had one he raised from a baby. It would take candy out of his pocket and walk around on a leash. It was very loveable.

Theoretically ... I mean a friends mother had one when she was young.
BUT
Racoons are notorious for having rabies and the like and are WILD ANIMALS. You don't want one ... go to the local ASPCA and get a dog or a cat or a hamster.
Leave the wild animals in the wild.

I t depends. If you have a good habitat for him and he needed to be rescued then yeh, But, if you just want a pet racoon for fun and your not helping it at all, THATS HORRIBLE.

Probably not a good idea. I suppose it could work if it was born in captivity, but wild racoons probably aren't easy to tame and they can carry diseases.

I have no idea...all I know is that every racoon I've seen looks very sweet, innocent and cute until you get up close. Then it goes all wild and wants to eat you! Very scary!
