Some experts claim that the chances of dying of cancer as a consequence of nuclear reactors are less than 1 in 1000 000. Give two reasons why this satistic may not make much difference to those citizens who are opposed to nuclear power??

well, Today nuclear power is not what it was. New reactors have been designed that are nearly impossible to meltdown, and methods are being developed to reprocess spent fuel and use it again, greatly reducing waste.
Nuclear is also non-greenhouse gas emitting, and considering it is a solution to the electricity needed to power our cars, it could also reduce our dependence on oil.
Those people are afraid of things like Chernobyl and Three mile Island, neither of which is likely today as plants are run much more carefully.

Opponents of nuclear power generally bring up the vulnerability of a plant to a terrorist attack, and the difficulty of permanently storing the radioactive waste. However, the potential of it (which include basically a pollutant free virtually unlimited source of power) are enormous, and it should not be abandoned.
