Dogs are smarter than cats so this might be possible but if you can, just let him poop outside, they like the outdoors.

Very Possible... I trained my 5 lb dog to "potty in the box" it turns out she will only pee in it, and she even shares the litter box with my 3 cats! She has NEVER pooped in the box though, that is a hard one! Put the puppy in the box everytime you would normally take it outside. My dog took to it right away. It really is harder if the dog is a larger dog, Not even sure that would be worth it! If it isnt a small dog, Maybe you should re-consider?! Some dogs just will not do it!

I had a small dog that I got in a nasty winter while I lived in an apartment. I liter box trained her.
I got a pretty large open (no top) litter box, and I used the "Wee wee pads" made for paper training dogs, in the litter box. I trained her just like paper training. After crate time, or eating, I put her in the box. If she pottied, she got praised. The Wee wee pads have a scent to them that attracts dogs, it does not smell like pee to us, just has a scent that to them attracks them there.
After she was going in there good, I started putting some kitty litter under that pad, then started decreasing the size of the pad.
Many people litter train small dogs in apartments, it is quite common now.

I never tried. But, I read: put the dog & it's bed in an area only large enough to hold it's bed & the litter box. When he needs to "go" he has 2 options. If he has more than 1 brain cell, it will be the box. After a while, it will be habit to go there.

For puppy housebreaking, the pet store that I work for recommends, Four Paws Housebreaking Aid. It is a liquid that can be used to train your dog inside or outside. Put a few drops in the litter and when he shows signs of having to go to the bathroom, make sure that he smells the drops. The drops smell like another dogs urination and it makes your dog want to go to the bathroom in the same place...it does not smell like a dog's urination to humans.

I don't think dogs can be trained to boxes., unlike cats.

At first I thought you wanted it to poop in the letter box because you are mad at the postal service.

I would not do that. The Mailman would not like poop in the leter box.

dogs are not supposed to poop boxes. if you want him to though, place puppy pads in the box and since they are scented, he will hopefully go more in there.

It's the same concept as training to go tside only take him to the litterbox instead and say go potty and when you see him making scent circles pick him up and put him in there until he goes.
