I mean, pretty much everyone is telling me that this is a "fallen world" because of A&E, and that's why people die, and that's why people need salvation in the form of a messiah. Let me know if I've got this right...

It's A&E's fault that we are all tainted with sin and death. In the scenario that they hadn't fallen, this world wouldn't be "fallen". So... IF they hadn't fallen, THEN it wouldn't've been necessary for the Jesus to be sacrificed to Yahweh...... right?

Just wanting to make sure that I've got it right.

In one tradition, the Cross is actually made of wood from the Tree of Knowledge, and Jesus is crucified on Golgotha, the "place of the skull" - Adam's skull. The idea behind this symbolism is that Jesus is the "perfect man" atoning for the original sin of the "original man," Adam. Jesus is sometimes called the "Second Adam."

But yeah, basically, you're right - the hijinks in the Garden were just the setup for the grotesquely tragic farce of the Redemption, the excuse for God to feast on the blood of His own son in place of the animal holocausts He enjoyed in the olden days.

Take this statement from somebody who thinks he's standing up for God:

"adam and eve were BOUND to fall. God knew this. God doesn't second guess, forget, or has to reassure His plans for the world. He knew what was going to happen and it did happen, as it was evident."

In other words, God set the whole thing up. Had He wanted, He could've created man perfect; but He preferred to create him imperfect and then to punish him for it. It was not that He created man with "free will" and then sat back and waited to see what would happen - He's God! He always knew what would happen and created man precisely to act as he did. The entire mechanics of "The Fall" and "The Atonement" are nothing but cheap theatrics at the behest of a sado-masochistic Puppeteer.

All this per Christian mythology! I always have to specify that I don't actually believe any of this revolting drivel. "Christians" do, but they don't ordinarily carry their beliefs to their logical conclusions like this.

Adam and Eve came to Earth with the understanding of being the first parents. They were given a choice. They could live forever in the Garden of Eden, knowing no pain, but knowing no joy. Or, they could eat of the forbidden tree and surely die.

They understood this packaged deal. It was not instant death. The package also included working, growing old, having and raising children, and death. But, if they did not partake of the fruit, there would be no human race. You would not have come to Earth.

Jesus was born to be akin to a "second" Adam, he succeeded where Adam failed, he chose the right thing to do. Eve didn't force any apple on Adam, he, of his own volition, chose to eat what God asked them not to eat.

Jesus is described as the son of man, Adam was the first. So yes, if both Adam and Eve had chosen to do the right thing this world would not have fallen.

That's my take on it, I am a christian, couldn't quote scripture for love nor money but I try, fail, get up dust off and keep going as best I can.

100%, that is Christian theology, it is nice to see some people know it. There are many other things that theologian theorize could have also resulted from this, not just sin and death on people. Seasons are one example of an idea of that SOME theologians believe would not have begun until after the fall. I know its out there but it is a belief held by some.

To answer this question, you would have to ask why God sent Jesus into the world in the first place. It was to provide salvation for His people that we could never attain for ourselves. Why do we need salvation? Because we are born sinners from Adam and Eve. So therefore, if Adam and Eve had never sinned, and no one else did after them, we would be living in a perfect world in perfect communion with God, and there would have been no need for God to send Jesus in the first place. But I must venture to say that even if Adam and Eve had not sinned, I am sure that someone after them would have, so more than likely, Jesus would have to come into the world regardless. : )

Yes, because Adam and Eve's children would have sinned. Because it is human nature, some of us would have sinned between the beginning and now.

So no matter what Jesus was to come down and die on the cross.

For free will to be possible, there had to be knowledge of good and evil.

It had to happen, but I suppose you're right. If that hadn't have happened we'd all live in a blissful world, free of real thought. Would that be better or worse? I don't know!

reminds me of the book brave new world, things seem to be very perfect, but there really is no free will, its obviously wrong, but you can't tell what about it is.. maybe you can and I'm just blind.

(though i like the story, i don't actually believe it)

Disclaimer: I am not a religion expert. But I find the whole thing very confusing myself. Adam and Eve were commanded to go and multiple but couldn't have enough knowledge on how to go about that until that pesky little snake came along. It was probably always a part of the plan..... doesn't God know us better than ourselves?

The death that Adam & Eve suffered because of sin was a Spiritual death, not a physical one (they were probably still on the hook for that all along).

Eventually, they were going to sin...it's not like this was a mystery to God. God allowed this to happen, yep, that's right, God allows evil in the world. The point of this world is to sort out those who want to go to Heaven and those who don't. If good is the only option, there is no choice but Heaven. The Devil shows us the alternative, partly because he thinks he can beat God (wrong) and partly because it's his job. (the name Satan means "Accuser"...which will be his role at judgement day)

Technically, you're right, if there was no sin there would be no need for Jesus to have been crucified...but then the purpose of this world would never have been fulfilled.

If sin and death had not entered the world via Adam and Eve, there would be no need for Jesus' sacrificial death for the forgiveness of sin or to overcome death.
