And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Please analyze the verse carefully. The Matthean treatment of this saying does not refer to God the Father. Take note of verse 17: "Why do you ask me about what is good?" (RSV)

Peace and blessings!

In Matthew 19:17, Jesus is asking the man if he knows what he is saying. He is not saying "I am not God," he is saying, "Yes, I am good, but do you realize that only God is good?"

Take note of John 20:28-29; Thomas calls Jesus "My Lord and My God," and is not rebuked.

The Trinity is indeed a very confusing idea. There is, in truth, only one God, but He presents Himself to us in three ways: the Father Almighty who created all things, the Son Jesus Christ who entered into human history and is the judge of the living and the dead, and the Holy Spirit who has spoken through the prophets and continues to inspire and speak to people today.

I suggest seeing your local clergyman for a more in depth conversation. Words, when written, are killed; they lie dead on the page, and you cannot refute or inquire further. The spoken word is the living word, so a face-to-face meeting with a pastor would answer this one best. You'll be surprised how willing most priests and ministers are to answer these types of questions.

Jesus is God's Son. Not God. John 10:36

When a Jewish ruler attempted application of the flattering title “Good Teacher” to Jesus Christ, Jesus instantly corrected him, saying: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.”—Lu 18:18, 19; compare Job 32:21, 22.

If Jesus were God, what he said wouldn't make sense.

The trinity Glory is that God is God--thus the fulfillment of the the Old Testament

Jesus (God the son) came with the Love and Grace of God the Father.(God is still God)

God (the Holy Spirit) brings comfort to Christians--today. (God the Father is still God)

Don't say the omniscience of the God head can not handle the three personalities of the God head IT IS NOT ONE OR THE OTHER---God is God,,,Jesus is God,,, the Holy Spirit is God--they are all one. GOD is GOD

In order to believe what Jesus said that no one is good but God, then, we have to believe that Jesus is NOT good, but since we know he IS good, we can know that Jesus was telling us that he is God himself.
The Jews knew he claimed to be God when they said that he claiming to be the SON of God meant he is claiming to be God.

He asked the question bc He was making a point. He asked them why they called Him good, and told them no one was good but God. He was implying that if He was good, then He was God. That's the point of what He said, that if they believed He was good, they should also believe He was God.

Jesus separtes Himself from God as the Father is separate from the Son. They are three different Divine PERSONS in one Divine BEING. There's a BIG difference.

.... Actually Jesus is illustrating a really good point. The man called Jesus good, and Jesus did not say, "Do not call me Good", he asked, "Why do you call me good?" Jesus was a very Socratic teacher. Anyway, he is wanting this guy to think. If Jesus is good, and only God is good..................... well........................... put two and two together my friend.
