It would be better to move the race so that Formula 1 drivers could race in the Indy 500. For years the race used to be 3rd weekend of May and some years it was the 1st weekend of June. Believe it or not F1 drivers used to race in the Indy 500, its time to bring that back.

But we probably will have to wait until Bernie Ecclestone is in jail or in a coffin or retirement home.

i wish they would but i don't think they ever will, your asking a great driver to hop in an unfamiliar car and race an unfamiliar race, for that reason i just don't see it happening, its recipe for failure, its kinda like the same problem in boxing these days, they would rather rule mediocrity that risk it all for greatness, Ive said it here before, is schumacher the greatest driver ever ? we'll never know, all we have seen is him be the greatest grand prix driver ever, and that's a huge difference,

this is a list of what the greatest driver ever can do...

1978-1979 (IROC VI) International Race of Champions series champion

1978 Formula One World Championship

1974 USAC national dirt track champion (U.S.)

1972 24 Hours of Daytona

1969 Indianapolis 500 winner

1967 Daytona 500 winner

Three time 12 Hours of Sebring winner (1967, 1970, 1972)

Four time IndyCar champion (1965, 1966, 1969, 1984)

and the pikes peak hill climb

thats what mario andretti achieved, this list doesn't include his podium finishes or how many races his car failed while in the lead

and as long as schumacher or any other curent or retired f1 drivers refuse to try things like indy he will remain the greatest ever

Ah, but the date for the Monaco Grand Prix has been moved over the years. Traditionally it was tied to Ascension Thursday, which is the 40th day after Easter and, seeing that Easter is a `moveable feast', Ascension Thursday doesn't always fall on the same day every year. However, it seems a cramped F1 calendar has now put an end to the Ascension Thursday/Monaco Grand Prix tradition.
Anyway, it isn't a clash of dates that prevents F1 drivers from racing at Indianapolis, rather it's more likely a clause in contracts that binds them exclusively to one series. Also, few would be willing to spend almost the entire month of May at Indianapolis.
While it's true F1 drivers raced at Indianapolis when the race was part of the F1 schedule (1950-1960), only a few ever bothered to cross the Atlantic for it, but a few others (Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt and Mario Andretti) did grace the Brickyard while they were still active in F1. Those days are long gone and never to return, even when Bernard Charles Ecclestone is no longer Le Grande Fromage at the F1 dog and pony show.

Yes, F1 drivers no longer have an interest in the Indy 500. The breaking up of CART into IRL/Champ Cars has ruined the sport. The reasoning behind it was so that the small guy would have a chance in racing. Well, that's just a pipe dream-the small guy has almost no chance in any of these sanctioning bodies (or NASCAR and F1 either) so it was all for nothing. Every time someone decides to level the playing field the inevitable result is a dumbing-down of the whole affair. It's sad because I think that talent like Tony Kanaan and Sebastien Bourdais are as talented as the top F1 drivers and it would be interesting to see them competing on the same courses, including the Indy 500.

Yeah, it would be very cool to see F1 drivers at Indy again, but even if F1 was not racing on the same day, I doubt F1 drivers would even go to Indy. Many retired or wannabe F1 drivers never go near Indy. I'd like to see Michael Schumacher give it a shot. I think most F1 pilots look down on oval track racing.

From my personal standpoint, I love Monaco being on Memorial Day Sunday, that way, I can get in 3 races in one day.

Otherwise, even if you moved Monaco to the 3rd Sunday in May, or the 1st Sunday in June, it would be moot because F1 drivers today look down on Indy Cars, and therefore, the Indy 500

No, none of the F1 drivers want to run it anymore since it isn't as prestigious as it was before the split.
