I for one am 1000x times better person than most religious people. I am a secular human being and believe in humanity. I help out as many people as I can and vote liberal as I am not selfish. I realize humanity is not perfect so humans need to help one another. But religious people hardly do any of this out of concern for others (that is the fraction they do actually do). They do it to get away from "hell". What do you think?

I think you are foolish to clump a group of people together and
put a brand on them whether they are atheist, Christian or any
other group.

The world is made up of individuals, and even within a group every individual has different characteristics and ways of handling themselves around others.

As far as you "humble" declaration of how good you are - you are in serious need of self examination. How could you in any
way formulate your 1000x better assumption without talking to
and observing "most" religious people!

In case you haven't noticed there are people on all sides of these issues in here that are respectful and don't try to knock others. Then there are trolls who come in here pretending to be what they are not - you may be one of them. There is also on record across this country files upon files that show that when everyone else leaves a disaster area after coming in on the initial wave of help - the religious people are there long
after everyone else is gone offering ongoing care to as many as they can.

As far as your assumption about Hell - you are asking the wrong people. Only each individual Christian or person of other faith knows why they believe the way they do. You take
too much upon yourself without knowing anything except your own opinion - which is miserably misinformed.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. More charity is given by religious people per capita in this era than any other group throughout all time. Now I can't tell you why the cults give, or why the non-christian groups give but when a Christian group does They don't take the credit they give the honor to their Lord. You on the other love to be seen by men as a Good Person. You apparently love the approval of others or why would you be blowing your own horn? But I am a stupid, evil, selfish, Christian , You are 1000 time better than me I should just shut up. May My Lord use me the ways He directs and keeps the credit to lift His name to the nations.. I assume you are much Better than me, because I profess faith in Christ. If you were to start attending any group in my church you would see normal people getting "better". Did you know that a lot of Christians used to be "bad" people by some standards? In fact, St. Paul was pretty awful. St. Peter had human qualities, and Martin Luther was a cusser. It is not by good works that we "earn" the grace of God. All he asks is we love him. Non-believers are sometimes very proud of theirselves, make assumptions that are incorrect without testing the waters. You would be impressed by the love and care our church has for the community. (Feed 1000 people per month for example) in the neighboring Mexican community. Because we want to not because we are religious and do-gooders or want to convert them. Liberal voting usually means A Woman's Right to choose abotion. do you feel that unborn humans have no rights? Do they not belong to the group called Humanity? Beware your helping hand, those warm fuzzy feelings can be an excuse to feel good about yourself - kind of like people who recycle their trash and think, Gee, I am helping the environment. I can drive my big SUV and have 10,000 sq ft of lawn and fertilize it cus I recycle. I am a Good Person. Personally I have never met a truly happy Atheist. They seem to be sort of passive aggressive, and like to bash Religion.
PS Jesus was definitely NOT Religious.

I think you assume that just because people who are religious do not vote liberal, do not help out as many people as they can, and are selfish.

I can name several people who are atheist that sport none of those qualities you state above, and many who are religious who are just the same.

I think someone's spirituality bares no relevance whatsoever to whether someone is a "good" person, or whether they are "better" than someone else. In any case, defining someone as "good" or "better" is completely subjective.

I think that atheists and religious people are both bound by the limits of humanity. Both sets of people, by and large, try to do the best they can, but are hampered by the knowlege of their own inevitable death, and that tends to make people a bit anxious.

I would tend to take the point of view of Richard Dawkins in that we do not truly get our morals from religion. There are those that do get their morals directly from religion, we usually call them fanatics, and they usually wind up killing a bunch of people.

In any case, I don't think that anyone can really say that theists or atheists (or agnostics) are better people, because we don't get our morals from the holy books, we get them from each other. Theist may in hind site claim that their morals match the cherry picked pieces from the bible, but one could honestly pick and choose lessons from any holy book and apply them to how we live our lives anyway.

The point is nobody is "better", unless you count those people who's delusions are grander than any other (extremists), but surely there are just as many crazy people in the world that are non-secular... No?

Edit: My reference to the 'bible' specifically in the second paragraph was a force of habit. My intention was not to single anyone religion out.

No. Even though I am far from being a Muslim for instance, I get along with them so much better than with an Atheist. An Atheist just wants to tell me I am wrong, religion is a delusion, God is evil, and so on. I would rather stand with people of another religion than to associate with people who show such disrespect for religion and the deity.

Christianity has missionaries all over the world. It is the Christians that were sent to take the gospel, (Good News) to the world and it is the Christians who are healing the sick, raising the dead, saving the lost, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visting those in prison, buidling the churches, giving to the poor, making Christians films, and so on and on and on.
It is the Christians who do the work Christ said to do, not the atheists.
It is the atheists who spend time and money to destroy all the good the Christians are doing, with their webistes telling people to blaspheme God, make fun of Christians, laugh at Christians, call Christians names and basically do all they can to destroy what is good and holy.
Give me a break!.
As for you being better. No, never. The Christians are the sweetest people on earth and you would know this if you would take the time to really know who they are.

Well why don't you just give yourself a nice pat on the back.
Did you know, that many Christians do things (unselfishly) for others everyday?
We just don't go around boasting about it.
We would rather boast on the Lord, thank you.
God Bless You.
