Take a class. If your school doesn't offer any, check out the summer programs that are offered in your community. Find a class that lets you dabble in drawing ,painting and sculture. If you take to it, you will know, but if you are so taken up in it that you decide to major in fine art at a collge level, Please double major, and choose something practical for your second major. Art can bring many personal rewards, but seldomly a good income. Exceptions include achitecture, and computer animation/ graphics.
If a class is too much, visit an art supply store and ask the sales person to help you get set up in the drawing ,painting, and scupture. If that is too much, just find stuff arround the house, paper pencil, play dough, whatever, Start drawing stuff. It doesn't matter if it looks as good as what you were hoping for. If you enjoy it, you will do it. If you keep doing it, you WILL get better. Art is a lifelong proccess.
hope this helps.

I have been in art all my life, Bluebird, and I still don't know what talent is. I don't think it really exists. An artist is someone driven to tell the world something the artist knows. If you are an artist you will produce such works and if not you won't. When you have produced a significant amount of work take it to an expert for appraisal but always remember, Bluebird, YOU are the final judge of your own work!

If you enjoy doing it, that is all that matters.

If you are thinking of majoring in fine arts for college, hone your craft and speak to your art teacher at school about your aspirations. Sign up for other art classes, especially a portfolio class. Research job opportunities for artists and realize this is a very subjective field. Some people will hate your work, others will love it. You must be prepared for this.
Good luck!

You don't.

You just HAVE to do it anyway..... if it is 'any good' is up to history. All I can say is "Remember Vincent."
