"power"?
why do they insist all this adam/even and the rest were real???
if the bible was just a philosophical and poetical work would it lose god´s inspiration???
why do keep on talking about spirit when all they ask to the bible is historical accuracy???
by the way most christians defend the bible accuracy it makes me wonder...if the bible is not historical truth, does it lose the message, the power???

Are you married?
Are you literally married, or metaphorically married?
Ask your wife if it would make any difference.

Most of the bible is common sense like the Old Testament. You get the most knowledge through asking the one who wrote it. Jesus is the word made flesh, which means he lived among us. Jesus also says to know his word you must ASK him n he breathes his spirit n you see it. Seek these things and ask god he will show you or speak it to you. If you have biblical foundation you know it says god NEVER changes he is the same yesterday, today and forever. This means his character and person, his change from the old testament where everything was LITERAL to the new TESTAMENT which is spiritual is an example. If you read everything in the OT foreshadowed the NT and vice versa. Lets take the 10 commandments - God said DO NOT commit adultery - okay so that is a PHYSICAL act right? Jesus comes n says now in matthew - DO not even LOOK at a woman as to LUST, or watch your thoughts, for he who does has ALREADY did it in his heart. This is because god judges the heart and the motives of a person not just the ACTION . He only gave this to us to this EXTREME bc of the gift of grace he was gonna give at the cross. He goes on to bring us to DEEPER levels on all these commandments especially murder. IF you hate a person in your heart .. jesus said it is the same as you have committed the act of murder. So with all these "LAWS" intensified it seems everyone IS guilty of sin right? Exactly n thats why the bible says We have ALL SINNED and fallen short of the glory of god. Jesus takes it another step further to say IF you stumble or break on LAW - you have broken them all. To god SIN is SIN, it dont matter what the sin is. Its like a win in a sports game - the winner wins it dont matter if it was by one point or a 100. So since No man can live n not break the law - they all have sin and a need for JESUS, god made it this way so all could receive his gift.

the bible is metaphorical. that doesnt mean theres no truth to it. unfortunately, we as humans do not have the intellect to comprehend the afterlife, altho many claim to know. they are just fooling themselves and others. who or what ever came up with the concept is far above us. if everyone lived by the 10 commandments we would have no problems, but we cant even do that. most religions teach the same principles, but they are at odds with eachother over trivialities. then theres war, but god is on their side. as long as there is this kind of mentality, nothing will change. people who know nothing has taken over anything the bible had to offer and turned it into what they believe is right. preachers are good salesmen. when the plate comes around, you need to dig down deep, and come up with the paper. you have to pay for someone to spread the word. what does that tell you?

If we accept that the Bible is metaphorical, and not inerrant, then we must deny the deity of Christ and His saving grace.

It just becomes a book of good moral stories, and some historical immoral stories.

That is why Christians cannot accept that. Also, because the history in the Bible is accurate with all the scholars of the day that it was written.

The Bible is not purely a historical document, the story of Adam and Eve for instance is a myth (a myth is a religious legend, a legend is something that was held in oral tradition for typically hundreds or thousands of years before it was finally written down). A myth is not necessarily false, it just means it is not verifiable since we would never expect to find a grave of Adam.

The New Testament is historical though, it is mixed with many symbolic parts (Matthew 1:1 for instance) but it is meant to be true in context.

If the bible were not true, it would be a lie because everything in it claims to be truth. Emphatically. Why would people follow lies? It's truth - nothing else. Eyewitness accounts.

People don't pattern their lives after other literary works considered poetry. And there is plenty of that out there.

The Bible makes a lot more sense, has more depth, and lives if you read it just like you read anything else. Read it like a book, not an object of worship.

Only certain fanatical Christian cults take that position. The other cults accept the metaphorical interpretations.

I don't think that it would make it lose any inspiration to me. It actually might make more sense.
