As a person who was raised Mormon but has chosen to attend a Born Again Christian Church as an adult, I am surprised at how many Christians really believe Mormons aren't Christian. I even hear "experts" on our local Christian radio stations saying Mormons aren't Christian. Which baffles me as to why modern day Christian leadership is okay with spreading these lies...the book of Mormon is about Christ coming to the Americas after the resurection and preaching to the Indians about salvation. I am not saying it is true or not. This I don't know, but how can they not be considered Christian?

The same reason that most catholics don't think baptists are christians is the real answer. Every group thinks they are better than the others, sometimes they believe they are the only ones. When it comes to Mormons' doctrine, it is so different from all of the other "main stream" denominations that the others all find Mormonism distasteful. This is also true of Jehovahs Witnesses and Christian Scientists.

It is just a form of religious bigotry.

Hey, Kate, guess what, Methodists and Baptist were founded in the early 1800's as well! Mormons use the King James version of the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon(another testament of Jesus Christ)
John E. You are sadly misinformed, you need to research all religion more, maybe you could find truth and happieness then.
Meg, that is spirit children before they are born, not after they die, RESEARCH!
Melsposty's, I am a Mormon, and I am a Christian, leave your armchair phylosophy in the livingroom and use the computer to learn something.
Bob, Father Son, and Holy Ghost, trinity. Not God and Jesus as God and Holy Ghost. Jesus was not praying to himself in the garden, neither was he asking why he had forsaken himself!
Choka, I believe the phrase is like God!
Christoiglia, Look up the 1st and 2nd Great Apostacy! Joseph Smith and the Mormons did not make that bit of history up.
While I have given you all something to research, you might look up how the great Methodists and Baptists, being the God fearing correct Christian people that they are were raping, killing, and stealing and burning the belongings of the Mormon people and insighting riots against them at the beginning of the Mormon faith.

Now to answer the original question, because people are afraid of things that are different than they believe and things that they do not understand. It is easier to insight hatred and stir up evil than to try to be understanding. It is ok guys, you are only human, most of your ignorance was taught and inherited....................................

Because they arent? When you compare what the Mormon church teaches with the church you now attend, what do you find in common?
Jesus and God the Father are mentioned, but who are they? At the church you now attend:
- do they tell you that Joseph Smith is a prophet?
-do they tell you that God was once a man?
-do they tell you that you have to be baptized by them to be saved? Are they the only true church on the face of the earth?
-does it teach that baptism washes away sin?
-how many Gods are there? (Not have to do with - how many in total?)

If you attended the Mormon church, you would hear all of this and more. That is why Historical Christian churches do not accept Mormonism as true.

The Bible warns us about false prophets coming along who would preach a different gospel.

That's in Galatians chapter one.

It says that even if someone claims they got their new message from an angel, let him be accursed.

And Joseph Smith claims he got his message from an angel.

And many of Smith's new teachings, such as polygamy, go against the teaching of Jesus.

Its been proven that the Book of Mormon was orignally written as a Novel, by a Presbyterian Minister named Solomon Spaulding.

Professors from BYU have a theory that if you test the DNA of American Indians and compare it to those Jews who live in Israel it will prove that the Book of Mormon is correct.

The tests show no relationship between Jews and native Americans. Also many errors have been found in the Book of Mormon.

Remember there are over 200 denominations of Mormons and only 2 of them have stopped the practice of polygamy.

The Mormon Church was a sex cult from the get go.

Yes its a false cult, always was and always will be.

PS: I no longer attend the church I was raised in either. I was raised Lutheran and today's Lutherans are very far away from where Martin Luther was.

The Mormon religion was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ and was told that all churches and their creeds were an abomination. Joseph set out to impose a brand-new religion that claims to be the “only true church on earth.” The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians have no reason to believe that the Bible is not true and adequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word. And all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Although Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people - they are involved in a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.

Mormonism denies the fundamental teachings of Christianity such as the nature of God. It is a religion that creates another Gospel. It is a theology that makes Jesus into a liar saying that the Church He created on a foundation of rock did not endure and survive but instead fell into apostasy. To a Christian calling Jesus a liar is akin to blasphemy. These are just a few problems with Mormonism being called Christianity but in general the whole faith is a contradiction to Christianity and its teaching.

I can understand why this might be difficult to take as someone who came out of Mormonism, but the fact is simply that they aren't the same. If Christianity is Christianity, then mormonism simply can't be. They are two different religions with two different modes of salvation and different rewards for said salvation.

In traditional Christianity, we believe that the Bible is the sole authority on faith and practice and there is no other text which stands as "scripture." We believe that we were created by a Holy God who Himself was not created and that we will one day go to live with Him based on our faith in the redemptive work of His Son, Jesus Christ. We will worship Him eternally in His presence yet we will remain in service to Him. We will never be His equal as we are the created, not the creator.

In Mormonism, there are multiple "scriptural" texts and though faith may be a mode of salvation, it is faith in a god who was once like you and I. As the addage goes: "As we are, god once was, and as god is we will someday be." The reward isn't to be with God for eternity in service and worship, but rather to become a god in our own right, at which point the created becomes the creator.

These are very different religions and they cannot both be correct. If one is Christianity, the other cannot be, go it either way. They simply aren't able to be categorized together.

4. mormons say that all other religions are wrong to get people in the cult

Because Mormon doctrine denies several major doctrines of the Christian faith.
Denial of the Doctrine of the Trinity
Denial of the Deity of Jesus
Acceptance of baptism for the dead.

Mormons like Jesus' teachings, but they pick and choose which ones to believe in.

And as for Jesus coming to the Americas? Joseph Smith was a drunk from a small upstate NY town. Mormons are not Christian. Generally, they are nice people, but they are not Christians if they deny Jesus' deity.

Mormons as I know it believe in extra-biblical revelation, or inspiration NOT found in sacred scripture; i.e., the book of Mormon. This is strongly warned against in the scriptures themselves.

Additionally, Mormons take the teaching of Joseph Smith and hold his teachings as co-equal with Jesus.

Jesus was emphatic when He said "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the father but through me". Either He was who He says he was or else He's a total lunatic or liar.
