As a Christian, I've noticed that there are an awful lot of you that are really angry and antagonistically anti-Christian. I guess I'm just curious what it is about Christianity that would make you go out of your way to antagonize and flame message boards and even go so far as to negatively review bibles on Amazon.com. It all just seems a little silly to me. I'd love some clarification.

How is it possible to "negatively review" a bible? Aren't the Protestant versions all the same?
I will allow there are a lot of antagonistic atheists, just as there are a lot of self-righteous, pushy, smug and unreasonable Christians. I wish it were not so, because antagonism does no one any good. I am all for a discussion, even the occasional argument. I try not to be unpleasant about it.
However, having said that, I have seen far too many Christians address atheists as though they were addressing slightly retarded children, who just need some schoolin'. Then there are the ones who say we're not "good Americans" because we don't believe in their gods. I also get a little tired of being told "all you need is to open your mind and you'll believe," especially from someone who won't open his mind to a scientific explanation of the world. So there's ignorance and intolerance on both sides. You need to grow a thicker skin and overlook a lot.

Not that I am one of them but, see, in the early days of the Dark Ages, the term 'atheist' was used as an attack to anyone who is unorthodox or who is against the mainstream. This term was synonymous to the term 'infidel', a term that the Christians used against the Muslim and the Jew, the Jew against the Muslim and the Christian, the Christian against the Muslim and the Jew (never mind that they also believe in God). In these early days, too, the Protestants killed the Catholics, the Chatholics massacered the Protestants, the Calvinists burned the Arminians at the stake while the Calvinists and Lutherans called each other heretics. Those were the days. Today, Christianity has spread all over the world and the believers are, because of their number, given a kind of assurance that they have perhaphs made the right decision as to which religion to pick. Seldom now do we here intelligent Christians, Muslim and Jews engage in the talk (or rather blabber) they put themselves into centuries back. Now, atheism are still a rising belief system (I do not agree that it is a relgion), and atheists are still, like the early religionists, struggling for accpetance, equality of treamtment (slim is the chance that an atheist will win the American presidency), an at least a good numbers. Atheism, though quite older than any religion, has been revived only recently, and the atheists feel oblidged to announce it. The Christians announced it by allowing themselves to be eaten by lions, the Muslims did it by taking up sword and scimitar, now, the atheists, in the age of information, have chosen books, blogs and even Bible to make themselves heard.

I've never thought about giving the Bible a negative review on Amazon.com. That's just hilarious.

But since you asked, here you go.....

Believers have taken over many of the governments of this world and are poised to destroy each other through war. Many Muslims believe that if they die while killing non-Muslims they will automatically go to heaven. Many Christians think that a world war will trigger the return of Jesus in the clouds. Jews are still waiting for the Messiah and feel as though they are entitled to the "Holy Land" because of some back-dated book about legendary heros that never actually existed. All three are completely and totally delusional.

As an atheist, I don't wish to see this self-fulfilling prophecy come true. God does not exist.

Of course, there is more to it. Christians in the country pass laws that prohibit me from purchasing beer on Sunday. What right do they have. Can an imaginary Being really prevent me from drinking? Apparently...

Christians in this country don't care about the environment (or at least the Republican ones) because they think Jesus will restore the Earth when he returns. This is a crock of BS. Jesus never existed either. And if he did, he's deader than a door nail.

Christians in this country are against the most promising medical breakthrough in history....stem cell research...because of some primitive mythology that says cell clusters have "souls".

I could go on...... abortion, birth control, STD vaccines....

Wow.

I guess we're just really angry, antagonistic people. It must be because we live without the shining grace of your god's love.

Or maybe you, like so many of your bretheren, routinely mistake rationality, intellectual confidence, and assertiveness for persecution and aggression. Maybe we have a problem with Christians because we have a problem with Christianity. Maybe Christians are not as loved and respected as they like to think, and maybe there are very good reasons why.

You think we're rude? You'd last about five minutes in one of my classes, and you'd be out the door in tears, because Christians can dish the s--t out, but they aren't used to having to take it. I'll be the first one to tell you that I find religion absolutely repulsive, especially Christianity, and I think that reviewing the Bible on Amazon is an interesting idea. If it's being done, there is a reason. Are Christians not submitting reviews en masse? I bet they are. Are other viewpoints being expressed? I guess they are. That doesn't seem "silly" to me, that seems FAIR. Get used to seeing stuff like that, because the Internet has opened an awful lot of eyes, and has an awful lot of people talking, and you just might find, at some not-too-distant time in the future, that the number of Christians is dwindling away. One can always hope.

Because I'm an Ex-Christian and I believe that Christianity is a mediocre idea gone horribly, horribly wrong. Many of its fundamental teachings strike me as innately harmful and damaging; its followers tend to be close-minded and bigoted; and its theology is flawed. I will point this out if the opportunity presents itself.

Now, do not go on Christian forums and attack them nor have I ever gone on Amazon.com and given the bible a bad review. But keep in mind, this here is an open forum. It's not "Christian only".

I don't have a problem with Christians who mind their own business. I do most definitely have a problem with Christians who are trying to mix church and state via creationism, prayer in school, the 10 commandments, Moral Majority, Focus on the Family, Christian Coalition, etc. That is why I am an activist atheist. I was fine to let Christians do their thing and let me do mine, but then the Religious Right pushed it.

There's nothing at all wrong with Christians who just live and let live. I know plenty that are moderates. I am a strong believer in personal freedom so I support their right to do as they please. It's just the anti-intellectual, dumb-and-proud-of-it types who tick me off. When I'm being a smarty pants on here it's aimed at them. I mean no offense to the sensible theists.

The idea of people believing in an event, or events, soooo long ago and based on no scientific fact is repulsive to many.

In my personal experience...I used to be very violent verbally towards believers that would argue with me. This was due, in part, to my being "brainwashed" for so many years as a child. I guess I sort of resented the fact that I was such a sheep at one point in my life and I would take that out on others.

Now, in my early 20's, I respect others beliefs and let them be.

I'm not an athiest, just a former Catholic-I got sick of the hypocrisy with the "do as I say or you're going to hell".

No human has the right to equate themselves with God and condemn another human being...and Christians do that A LOT.

ok i'll give you a true answer but i doubt if you'll read it attentively... christians are like absolutely LAST on my like list because they're the most meddlesome people i have met.i'm sorry but this is the truth.

i work with many christians, buddhists, hindus, muslims etc and all the other people have enough manners to keep their beliefs to themselves and respect others' beliefs as well, not so with the christians and i'm truly sick of all these "you need to be saved",this is the one true religion etc etc.

and i DON'T believe all that sh*t about "we do it because we care about you" because many of the christians i have met are FAR from nice and pleasant in day to day life.they're just pushy and nosey and meddlesome.

I only just get that way around the hypocrites -- or the ones who post 1600 words worth of biblical passages they copy-and-pasted from somewhere, instead of formulating an original thought.
