I just got a new job that I start in 3 weeks. I will be driving 500 miles a week just going to-and-from the job. I am looking to save on gas prices...I also go mountain biking a lot and am looking for a little utility option too. I've looked at a new Nissan Versa, a used Toyota Prius, a used Toyota Matrix, and a new Honda Fit. I know what all the features are of these vehicles...but based on what any of you have experienced or know, some help would be most appreciated!!!

I wouldn't recommend a brand new car if you're going to put that many miles on it. You'll burn through the warranty very quickly (standard bumper-to-bumper warranty is 3yr/36k miles and at 500 miles/week you'll exceed the mileage in less than 1.5 years), and putting lots of miles on a new car will cause it to depreciate even quicker.

Are you getting compensated for mileage? If so, the Prius might make the most sense in the long run since it gets the best gas mileage and hence is the cheapest to run per mile (excluding any unforseen repairs). Otherwise I'd go with the Matrix as it's cheaper to buy up front and has more usable cargo room. I have a friend with a Matrix and he thinks it's great.

I drive apprx 4000 miles per month, so based on the 4 you;ve picked. I would say the matrix will give you the most "bang for your buck" You should still get 30+ MPG and have some extra room for comfort. And trust me any extra comfort will make your day better.

i would go with a honda fit or better yet, a honda civic.

Civics get 40mpg on the highway and was the 2006 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
