A 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royal Sports Coupe was auctioned for $11 million.

I believe this is the record holder ? Sold at Christies Auction house in 1987.

Barett - Jackson sold Carrol Shelby's Cobra for 5.5 million. Thats there record but I am sure there are others that have sold for more. But the Bugatti Type 41 Royale is the worlds most exspensive car, extimated to be worth 10 million or so and just by chance, up for sale ;)
