Many countries now require that there be at least six months left on a passport when you enter. I've enclosed a link to the passport office. You may want to check that out. Also, you may want to contact the Indian Embassy for information on entry requirements.

Each country has different rules. Her passport technically should be okay, but some countries want you to renew if it is going to expire soon, say within 6 months of your travel. Go online to the India embassy, and check tourist visa information. It should tell you about their passport requirements. BTW, right now the passports are SLOW as molasses, I guess security concerns.

You should try to renew your passport if it will expire within 6 months of your travel. Some countries won't allow entry if your passport is close to expiry for fear that you may stay behind. Passport is a travel document. You should keep it updated all the time.

You definitely should renew her passort or else she may not be allowed to travel in India. Some countries require that your U.S. passport be valid at least 6 months or longer beyond the dates of your trip. You may check with the Embassy or nearest Consulate of the country that you plan to visit for their requirements.

I think your question would be best answered by the Indian Embassy, here's the website in the USA: http://www.indianembassy.org/newsite/default.asp
I'm sure you can contact them by e-mail or phone if you can't get the information you need from the website. Good luck.
