The motors on washing machines are AC powered and can not be run on DC. So it is not just a matter of finding the wires to hook up. You would need to provide an inverter to make that DC into the AC the motor wants, with enough wattage to handle the motor. You would then have the two problems of the solenoids needing to be DC driven not AC driven and of the timer in the controls needing to be DC driven (older machines used a clock motor that was AC frequency driven and new ones have a transformer for the electronics that would not be happy with DC).

I have never seen a washing machine motor that would run directly off a battery. They might exist, but are probably not common. Most require AC. If a brushless DC motors like the newer front loaders, they will require a suitable electronic controller, the one that was built into the washer is probably designed for AC input, there will be a point somewhere in the circuit where that is converted to DC, but you'd probably need a schematic and some experience to know where to make the connection.

what do you know about the wires on the switch for this motor? have you already disconnected it from the washing machine? if you don't know which terminals were which, you have got problems already. what is the project? a wire wheel? a bench grinder? how are you planning to secure the motor to whatever you are building? old fashioned wringer washer motors had a mounting base built onto them, modern washing machine motors are usually mounted to some type of carriage or hanger. if you could supply more info about the project, you might get a better answer. good luck, be careful.

I don't think you'll find a DC motor that has the capacity to churn a washing machine, unless you have a ginormous battery and a control circuit to pulse the current. The Internet search I did says there are such motors and they are strong enough, but you'd need to research to find your application.
