A bird can fly with some of their tail feathers missing. How MANY feathers , the size of the bird and the reason they are missing are all factors in how well the bird can maneuver and ultimately compete for food and survive in the wild. If this is a pet bird...all bets are off.

The first five to seven feathers on a bird (if counting from the farthest point inward to the chest) are known as the primary flight feathers. In domesticated parrots, for instance, these are the ones to be clipped to avoid sudden flight.

Even with these primary feathers clipped, the parrot can still fly, but they will fly downward to the ground. When you own a bird it is so important to keep these specific feathers clipped on a regular basis (every two weeks on an average). Sometimes just one feather will grow back.

Clipping the birds' feathers is not inhumane and does not harm the bird. It keeps them in the safe loving custody of their dedicated owners.

Yes they can. They use the tail feathers more for turning direction , and the wings for thrust and power to stay in the air .

If it is just their tail & not affecting the wings the bird should be able to fly but if the wings are involved then it will not be able to fly

No. rather you have considered chicken wings at KFC. How do you think of they could get of the floor with out feathers which grant a brilliant aerodynamic area to enable them to fly.

They can, but they can't always manouver well. I have one that breaks every new tailfeather he gets. He looks like a fluff ball with a head.
