I tip cooks at restaurant if the food is how I asked and I will ask to see the cook so I can give him/her the money... People should tip cooks there the one fixing the food the way you want...You should tip them as much or more than the waiters...

I'm going to do away with this little myth of servers making only $2.13 (or some other dismal amount) per hour. This is not true for all states. As well, even if a server doesn't make the non-tipped minimum wage standard, their employer is required to make up the difference.

I don't tip the cooks, as I have been told by numerous restaurant owners and managers that tips left for servers are distributed among that server, the host(ess), and the cooks.

Well, if I am at an establishment which I actually have interaction with the Cook ( I.e Hibachi, or Mongolian restaurants where they cook at the table) I always tip. Normally, cooks get paid a higher hourly wage than waitstaff and do not require tipping.
hope that helps.

BOH works extremely hard, it's true. You bust your butt nightly, usually over a saute pan, or a hot grill. You deal with the wait staff and guys on the line. Smiling is nice, but not a requirement. Odds are, you will not come into contact with a guest at all.

Working on the floor, I deal with everyone! And I always have to be nice. I probably do make more $ then our culinary staff, but I am constantly dealing with more people and their "issues" . It's nothing personal.
If you know where the money is, then why stay in the kitchen?

I'll be honest and admit that I've never tipped a cook or ever will. I do send complements to the chef when the food is superb, but it doesn't even occur to me to tip the cook.

thats a great question. sad to say i have only tipped the cooks, chefs. a few times. i gave it to the waitress besides her tip and asked her to make sure the person who cooked my shrimp to be sure they got it. what a laugh. the best deep fried shrimp i ever had was cooked and breaded by the dishwasher. he truly made it better than any of the chefs.

Oh, don't even f'n start. For every frigging thing I get these days, 50 people have their hand out. There should be one tipping pool at restaurants, salons, you name it. And NO tip jar for drive through windows!! I saw a tip jar at Victoria's Secret the other day!! What's next? A tip to wipe my own ***? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

HUH? Servers make 2.13 an hour. Cooks make at least 10.

I rather tip the Cooks than these whiny hustling so called waiters. all you do is fill the water by getting it from the tap, ask a question here and there "everything ok?" "how's everything" in broken english. and of course getting the food from the kitchen to the table....ummm how far is it? 100 miles ?
and on top of it, most of them are illegals in the first place, you complain i'll report to ice! NOW SERVE MY FOOD! AND GET ME YOUR MANAGER!
