My stepson and I are planning on paying back a bus company on the value of the tickets my 14-year-old stepson has counterfeited to get to school. (this will be coming out of his money) However, I'm not so sure what is the best way to settle this issue. I know that this bus company is pretty malicious and not the most kindest people in the world. Im not so sure whether I should settle this in person, but I'm leaning towards that. My stepson fears and is worried about how they will react, considering that they know how he looks like when they caught him using those tickets. Not to mention, we will also be riding that bus to go the company for pay them back. I'm not so sure what we should say to them? Also, if they did press charges on him, will paying restitution help in his sentencing? (I truly fear that he will get sent to a detention facility, because in my state, the parents have to pay $100 daily for the stay, and i am unable to afford that)

with all due respect, i would appreciate it that you keep all the negative comments to yourself whether it is about my parenting method or my stepson. Coping with this situation is extremely stressful and my stepson knows that what he did was wrong and the possible consequences that he may very well be facing due to his actions. And lastly, I do not have car...so leave that aside..sry, I just needed to get that out

not only should he pay the restitution i would find a charity that he can work at for the entire summer free of charge as a lesson in humility

Your stepson was wrong and having him pay the restitution for the tickets is correct. I would suggest that you, as stepmom, take him to the bus company and meet with them in person and offer a personal apology for his misdeed. Regardless of whether the company is malicious or not, your son was wrong and needs to face his responsibility. Hopefully, if he is remorseful for his actions, the company will hold off on the criminal charges.

I believe that resolving this without the assistance of lawyers will not be the best course of action. Unless your son has committed other crimes, he may just be put on probation and ordered to pay a fine, probably the cost of the tickets. If they press charges, your son will go to court and he will have to own up to his crime. The prosecution may be willing to make a deal with your son that would not involve him going to detention as he is a minor.

Signs of remorse are generally considered when sentencing. Paying restitution BEFORE the court orders it would appear to show remorse. If this is a first offense, I suspect he could receive probation and community service.

Find the number for Legal Aide, they'll be able to help you for little to no cost in getting a lawyer.

see if the bus company will let him work the debt off. they will feel vindication by working the kid and freeing you of the financial pressure. if not call a lawyer.

If you make restitution, you may get lucky, and not have charges pressed...

first off if that was my son or stepson i would have beat his *** which you should do...its because of parents like you that kids have no respect for anyone now a days. secondly make his *** get a job and go down there to admit what he did and offer to repay them. thirdly how about you get your lazy *** a car instead of taking the bus.
