Restaurants Porters Taxis
15-20% $1 - $2 per bag 10 - 15%
Many hotels and restaurants add a service charge to the bill, and an additional tip is unnecessary. If not, 10% is the general rule for restaurant service, and a dollar per bag.
I found you a great link that breaks it down better as well as you can shrink it up and put it in your wallet so you can carry it with you.. Have fun United States is a great place to visit..

People that usually get tips are waiters/waitresses, hairdressers, taxi drivers, maids at hotels, etc. Actually, of all of these, waiters/waitresses are the ones who usually live off of tips, so if you don't tip anyone else, tip them. The standard is 15% of the bill (you can choose to base this before tax or after tax, although it's technically before tax). You do not tip anyone at a department store - they are paid an hourly wage, some are salaried.

If you don't tip a waiter, they will really not be happy and I wouldn't go back to that restaurant lol

If you go to dinner in a very large group, some restaurants will actually include a tip in the final bill. That way, you don't need to figure it out. They will tell you this, however.

Tipping is usually 15% (of the bill) and 20% is not uncommon. I usually tip wait staff at nice restaurants, doormen, and salon employees. My hairdresser usually gets the nicest tip (I appreciate her good work!). In smaller food establishments and bars, tipping is usually optional and sometimes there will be a jar at the register with a sign that says "tips appreciated". Enjoy your trip!

the employee there has low basic salary and thus depend much on their extra imcome (that's when their excellent service comes in).
It's kind of expect you but if you didn't they mostly won't say anything but disappoint. Hey, but if they did provide you with excellent service, don't they deserve the tip.
