how much AC current will 8 600W DC transformers draw?

Sorry for the confusion and lack of info. I'm trying to figure out how much 120V AC I'm going to need to run 8- 600W Landscape lighting transformers. I believe Thomas has the best and to the point answer of "A watt is a watt".

Thanks to all for input. This is my first time using Yahoo Answers, and I've gotta say, it sure as heck beats the 3 hours I just spent on the web trying to find out how much power my transformers were going to pull. I guess I was just expected to know that "A watt is a watt".

A watt is a watt.

8 x 600 watts = 4800 watts.

Since the load is DC, we'll assume a near unity power factor.

You did not provide the AC voltage, so I have assumed 120 V AC. If this is not correct, you will need to adjust the equation below if the voltage is different.

4800 watts ÷ 120 V = 40 amps.

your load is basically 5 k. Assuming a power factor of 1 for the load and 115 vac as the input source with a high efficiency AC-DC converter, the ac current should be

I ac = 5000/115 = 43,5 amperes

I made the assumption you were talking about an AC-DC coverter, not a transformer.

DC Transformer? That's a new one.

I assume you mean transformer for an AC to DC power supply. The answer really depends on the load drawn off the power supply. If each is at capacity, (600w) then 8x600W = 4800W.

What? can you supply a _little_ more information? there is no way to give a real answer as is.
What is the AC voltage?
What do mean by "DC transformer" anyway? unless you are talking about a pulse transformer, there is no such thing as a DC transformer.
