The word "holy", in ancient Greek, actually meant "be different".

I've heen a Christian for 2 years now. So far, nobody has ever asked me:" Well, you are so different from the rest of us. How come?" Certainly, I know, to be honest with you, I am quite different from who I was. God has changed me. I have made progress, but the difference between us Christians and non-believers are not evident enough to attract their attention, or even attract them into our religion. Now, are you different from non-believers ? As a religion, Christianity is successful. As a way of life, is it as successful as non-believers expect it to be?

How the Christian should live
Ti:2:11: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Ti:2:12: Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Ti:2:13: Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Ti:2:14: Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Ti:2:15: These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Ti:3:1: Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Ti:3:2: To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

Jesus said that we are "not of this world. if you were, it's people would love you." I believe this SHOULD mean that we are different in how we act, talk, live, and sometimes even dress. But slowly the church is becoming desensitized to the world's culture, and slowly becoming integrated. I've been a Christian since I was three, so I can't say what life is like without. But with Jesus, I can say my whole life has always been great. I've always had someone to turn to, not just God, but even to other Christian friends.

I remember one time while at work I was speaking to a fellow co-worker. He knew that I had been through some very difficult times and we were talking about some of those hard times. He asked me out right at one point, "Are you a Christian", I told him that I was, to which he replied, "I thought so". My point is, sometimes people don't ask or say anything about it, but they notice by your actions that you respond different to life circumstances then those who don't have faith. You don't need to stick out like a sore thumb but folks will see the way you act and take note and may never say anything. I think as Christians we don't have life any easier than others, it is not about being successful, it is standing firm in your faith under all circumstances. Not easy at times.

Yes, in simple terms 'why'.
As a religion, Christianity is successful. As a way of life, is it as successful as non-believers expect it to be? Since non-believers are not our judge, Jesus & God the Father are; is their belief our deciding factor currently?

Yes we are different,and we're to be different.
We are to be "a light on a hill" to the world.
Today,Christians try to be "politically correct" and tolerant of other beliefs and "life styles".
God never has been tolerant of other gods or sin.
Christians don't want to share the Gospel because it might offend the hearers.Jesus never held back the truth even if it angered people.
We need to share the Gospel and see someone saved not leave them in their sin.
(note:I am interested in how the Gospel is growing and persecution in China)

Don't worry. Yes, you're right, we are called to be separate from the world. Don't worry about the impact you are making, that is, if someone doesn't say to you those exact words. Do what God asks of you, be kind, humble, merciful, forgiving, compassionate. Let God take care of the effect that has on another. Just because no one has said that to you, doesn't mean they don't see God in you *smile*.

We better be...or I wonder if we are Christians at all. How can we reflect the love of God to a dark world, when you cannot tell the difference between the light and dark?

Tell aswell as show. For Christdidn't just stay quite a pray all the time. He taught and prayed, told aswell as show. Some people can notice by the way you talk, the way you've change, and the way you act.

They may not say it but I think they know... (smile)

It is actually much more successful than non-believers. Because with Jesus Christ you have already won. VICTORY!

All that being said, maybe one reason why you are getting that response is because you may not be seizing enough opportunities to witness the truth of Jessus- LOVINGLY...

Yes, we are differnt from the rest of the world.
When we are in Christ, “we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us” (Romans 8:37) and can rejoice in our Savior, who makes all things possible! In Christ we are loved, forgiven, and promised salvation. In Christ we are adopted, justified, redeemed, reconciled, and chosen. In Christ we are victorious, filled with joy and peace, granted true meaning in life.
