No. When filtered water is used the filters need to be changed right on time or bacteria is put back into the water. I wouldn't trust that would be done. Besides that, tap water has less bacteria than bottled water. The water where I live from the tap is actually pretty good. Some tap water is really gross though. If that is the case where you live then I can understand why you think filters should be used. Water softeners can make a huge difference in the quality of water too.

No, and if the water in your area tastes so bad that it affects the coffee, tell the owner.
If they don't do anything about it, try to find a coffee shop that does filter their water. However, I wouldn't be too disappointed to find out that simple filtration, even with activated charcoal, won't remove all of the bad taste -- it takes some serious filtration with frequently renewed charcoal to improve the taste of funky water. Possibly costing more than most coffee shops will want to implement.

nobody should be required to filter their tap water as long as its safe....and truthfully, i, a self-righteous coffee snob can rarely detect filtered or un-filtered water in my coffee. plus, most high-end coffee/espresso makers have a filtering mechanism built into them (mine at HOME does), so chances are, there is some filtering goin gon.
i agree, the tap water propaganda is getting out of hand.

I do not see why as long as they are not using well water. Most tap water does go through a filtration plant. Some add chlorine to kill organisms that could make us sick some do not. Bottom line is almost all water is filtered through huge plants before it gets to your tap.

No, they shouldn't. As long as the water is safe then it should be fine to use. I think we are getting way too many mandatory regulations in this country. Sorry, but this is my opinion.
