I have received many graduation notices and cannot afford to give money to all. What is proper?

You don't have to buy a gift, however, you should send a card congratulating the graduate on their achievements. That's completely sufficient. The graduate shouldn't be expecting gifts.

only give gifts/money to your closest friends or family members. everyone else just get them a card. i never expected anything from anyone at either my high school graduation or my college graduation. i knew most of friends and family were poor so i just valued their time at the party more than any material gain.

They are just that........notices to let you know they graduated. So there is no need to buy them a gift. You can either email them congratulatory wishes, send them via e-cards or snail mail cards. Emails or e-cards will definitely be the cheapest way.

All you have to give the graduates is your congratulations. It's totally up to you whether or not you want to give them a gift.

Its really up to you. Most I just send a card but you don't even have to do that unless its a good friend or close relation that you feel a few dollars should be added.

Announcements aren't gift solicitations. A genuinely congratulatory letter is enough, if that's what you can do.
