Is it a dramatic differnce. The TV with 5000:1 is $897 and the 7000:1 is $1,099.99

Thank you

Both numbers refer to Dynamic contrast.
For true contrast, divide each number by 4 or 5.
In general, for the same peak brightness, higher contrast means the TV has better blacks.

I am not sure which models that you are looking at. Here are some additional specs that you want to look at besides contrast ratio:

1) Number of HDMI ports. Cheaper models tend to have only 1 HDMI port. Newer ones have 2 or 3 ports.

2) Response time. The lower the better. The 7000:1 model that I have seen in stores only has 8ms, which is kinda slow. 5ms or faster is ideal.

You would only notice the difference if you had the models side by side. Otherwise, the 5000:1 system is a solid model.
You tend to notice a difference for models that are 1000:1 difference.

There is no standard measurement technique for this specification, making it more or less useless for comparing sets of different brands.

Within a particular brand, the number MIGHT mean that one set actually has better contrast than the other. In reality there are other factors that are likely to make a bigger difference in the picture quality.

For $200 I wouldn't worry about it unless one looks obviously superior to you.
