Usually the smaller guitars are for children because it's another toy for them. But Taylor and Martin make fine junior guitars that are quality instruments, yet are used by backpackers, campers, and others that carry a smaller guitar is advantageous to them.

Just remember that the junior guitars of low grade and cost might hold a chord tuning in the lower frets, but will require constant tuning if played seriously.
