How about helping her be more comfortable while she is exploring the options with her doctor - take her magazines and books? Offer to clean her house for her or at least do the dishes. Maybe plant some flowers for her, water and care for them. Give her a card with a gift certificate to a beauty salon. People sometimes don't pay attention to pampering themselves and sometimes with the expenses of the illness, don't have the extra money.

There are some excellent resources on the Internet. If she is not able, interested, or just too frightened to learn about her condition on her own then maybe you can do some research of your own and help her with some real answers. An excellent place to start is www.acor.org. On the acor.org website you can even join a list based on the exact type of cancer she has and ask questions of people that are going through various stages of the same cancer. Most of the people that join these lists are very helpful and you can find out what types of treatments and protocols they are going through.

Medically I think you will have to leave that to the professionals. As a neighbor, there are a lot of things you can do. Don't just ask if she/he needs help...go ahead and do things for her/him. Also, offer to go to the store for them, run errands. Also, just sit and visit...watch tv, take some funny movies over and pop some popcorn and spend the evening. What every seriously person wants is to know that someone cares. It sounds like you do. Good luck.

If she is going through chemo, get her a juicer. I know several people who went through chemo and their body held up amazingly, they all juiced three times daily. Supposedly it helps to keep your body strong and prevents the horrible side effects. Two of these people were diagnosed terminal and they are now completely healthy.

The truth is you cant really do anything for your neighbour You can only really be there to help her/him be comfortable and support her/him Good luck with everything its a hard thing to sit back and see your neighbour like this when there is nothing humanly possible you can do.

Prayer, that is what you do pray for her peace of mind, help her have comfort during this change in her life. Give thanks to God for the times she is a peace and comfort. As long as there is sin in the world there will be sickness and disease. It just happens, and when these storms come it is the time we get closer to God. Read the book of Job! It is what God does for us, not what we do for him...he is willing....he is love....
