LOVELY! They take you in, wire you up to monitors and then the nice man places a needle in you hand and asks you usually to count back from 100. Chances are you get to 97. Last time I refused to count so he asked me to name my favorite cigarette brand and the one before that. You feel nothing and even if you try to stay awake, you cannot. In fact as I am in serious pain daily, I often wonder if they could just knock me out, say once a week, give me some peace?

I had surgery 4 months ago and last month and my cousin is an anesthesiologist. You are on the table and the anestesiologist will talk to you about whats going happen. Then he will probably ask you about what you did yesterday or your favorite sport.. something that you can keep talking about. As you are talking he will put the mask on your face and you will slowly stop talking and you will be breathing in the air. You can get a headache but, it is sually a good feeling. Some people get dizzy and some don't. Most people like the feeling because, you are just slowly and peacefully going to sleep. Personally, I get dizzy then I'm out. Litterally, most people are asleep within a minute or two. If they haven't already inserted your IV, then they will insert it when you are asleep and they will insert medicine that will keep you down. Your eyes are open and then your eye balls roll to the back of your head and then your eye lids close within the next 2-3 minutes. It doesn't really feel like you are fading away, it just feels like you are going to sleep very fast and you aren't really sure what is going on. You really have nothing to worry about, you will be in great hands! Its all they do all day long.
Good Luck!!!

i forgot this part....
they give you a sedative that relaxes you and once you have that in, you really have no idea whats going on and you are thinking about other things. you are with it but it doesn't feel like it. then when the sedative is in, they give you the anestesia... and you are "going to sleep very fast". It doesn't really feel like anything excep tthat you are tired and just want to sleep.
If you have any questions... e-mail me and I will ask my cousin.
PLEASE ask questions when you are there pre-surgery.

regular anesthesia is an particularly frightening component, relatively while you're no longer conscious of the mechanics of it. There particularly isn't something to be scared approximately nevertheless. they provide you a preoperative drugs first, like Valium or Versed and Demerol. which will take fairly some the stress away. as quickly as they get you on the OR table the Anesthesiologist provide help to comprehend each and every thing they are going to do and precisely the form you will sense. this is merely like floating and going to sleep. they're going to inject the sodium pentothal into your IV and you may get a sprint garlic style on your mouth. they permit you to comprehend to count quantity backwards from 10 and while you're making it to eight earlier you're out you're a superhero. Anesthesia is extremely risk-free those days. do no longer undertaking for a 2d. you would be nicely dealt with and monitored the completed time and while your surgical treatment is over they provide you some drugs to opposite the anesthesia and you're on your street to restoration. each and all of the perfect to you. do no longer undertaking!

When they actually put you under, you just pass out But when you wake up, now that is another story. For some people they are completely unaffected, I on the other hand felt like I had the worst hang over of my life x 100000. I felt naseous, dizzy, I couldn't pee for almost half a day (some surgical places won't discharge you until you pee) overall worst experience ever. Hopefully you won't have it so bad. Good luck!!

I had surgery when I was 12 and I mainly remember not taking it easily which was funny because I had been up all night in pain but it didn't work right away. Then when it did work it was just like I blinked. I felt like I blinked and it was done.

Technically it wasn't surjury, but I did get anesthesia. It feels like you are drifting into a calm and drug-induced sleep. If only I was givin it all the time so I can get to sleep. Sometimes there are even scents. You can fall asleep with strawberry fields filling your nose.

Well, first they gave me a sedative to relax me, and then when they gave me the primary anesthesia, I don't even remember that. Of course they told me first, but I don't remember if they made me count backwards or anything. Then I was awake and it was over.
