Only the few who can afford it, they average black cannon afford to put gold on their finger, let alone in their mouth, unless they just bit off your girlfriends earing, along with a chunk of her lobe.

I have two gold crowns in my mouth (both are on molars--numbers 3 and 4, to be exact) and I'm white. They're not in my "smile line" (teeth that are visible when smiling) and I'd never do that--it's tacky and trashy. I chose gold (over porcelain) because I have a habit of grinding my teeth and gold is more durable. Porcelain chips.

As for why so many black people have gold/grills on their front teeth--I think it's a status symbol. "Look at me! I've got gold teeth and I drive an Escalade with 24 inch wheels!" What they neglect to tell you is that they also LIVE in that Escalade because they spend all their money on useless crap and can't afford rent...

It's not just for Black people, it's a fad that started in Southern hip-hop culture. Low income families cannot always afford expensive (veneers and caps) dental care, especially cosmetic care. Gold caps on front teeth bagan as a way to show financial status, it grew into a fad when diamonds were added to old dental work by people who came into money later in life.

I'm sure the emo/punk look of skinny tapered jeans on white boys looks idiotic to some people, so does spikey hair, nose rings, arm tats, t-shirts with stupid sayings and a zillion other fads in non hip-hop groups... To each their own.

African-Americans choose to get gold fronts because they have the desire to do so. I know several white guys in my area that have at least 10 gold teeth in their mouth, so its not only blacks. Nowadays with the removeable gold plates, I'm seeing mixed races wearing those as well. Truth be told, "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one!" On that note, I will leave it at that, oh yea, and I have one, and I LOOK JAZZY!!!

It's called a culture...a fad...a style. It's the in thing and if you are not in the urban areas, then you will NEVER understand it so leave it alone and go back to your suburban utopia. You are obviously very closed minded and need to get out of whatever hick town you live in so you can expand your mind. You should travel more to other cities and other countries so you can see that every race has a style from Indian people, Hispanics, Asians, Brazilians you name it, all ethnicity's have their own styles that are unique.

It's 'Why do many blacks WEAR gold in their mouths?"...not 'where' gold...and I think that whole fad is fading. It really does ruin your teeth, so I hope it IS fading out. There were a lot of people around here who were trying to associate themselves with gangsta's and they did that to themselves, but I'm seeing it less and less.

It's hard to take the intellectual high ground when you can't even spell "wear".

I agree with you that they look like clowns, but that's a cultural thing. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone except those in the culture. Kids in the 50s with their leather jackets looked ridiculous to older people. Same thing with other trends. What I think is especially deplorable is the emphasis on short term gratification and ostentatious wealth that is so prevalent in black urban culture. Who cares what they look like wearing it.

do you realize how ridiculous (and prejudice) you appear when you generalize? how many people have you actually seen wearing gold in their mouths before you came to this brilliant question of your? wearing gold is a trend as are polo shirts and khaki pants. both "trends" are ridiculous.

stop trying to hide behind a trend to take a shot at "many blacks" because you're out in the open now -- everyone can see how racist you are. lol. racists are a joke. you're a joke.

I just posted a response to your other question about you being a waiter and why are black people so cheap.

I'm getting the impression that this is a theme with you.

People that adorn themselves with glitter.....gold, jewels, appurtenance of all kinds.....that kind of thing is vanity. It's a useless, wasteful and often ridiculous waste of resources.

What is it that YOU see?

I don't care what color a peson's skin is.....if they're coming at me, smiling or not, all I see is soemone that makes frivolous decisions in their life.

I think it looks retarded. I used to live by a public slum project and there was this fat slob black kid with all of his teeth done in silver. Funny how he/his parent had money for that.
