As a blackjack dealer I can tell you that all tips we receive are appreciated. In most cases dealers are paid minimum wage by the casino, which for the most part goes to cover taxes on our tips and insurance. We live off our tips. If you are on a winning streak, get a blackjack or win a big hand in a game like 3 card poker it is customary to tip your dealer. It all depends on how much you are betting and how much you're winning. You can always place a bet for the dealer, or toss them a tip. It should be whatever you are comfortable giving, but keep in mind what you've been winning. If you're playing on a $100 minimum table and throw the dealer a dollar for a blackjack you'll look like a cheapskate, but on a $5 minimum it isn't so bad. You are right, there are a lot of players who don't have a lot of consideration for the dealers. We deal with a lot of negativity every night, the tips are the reason we keep going back to work! Just so you know, there are A LOT of very nice players out there too. Even when they're losing they don't take it out on the dealer. To the person that suggested you shouldn't tip casino employees due to suspicion of the casino, that's ridiculous. The casino expects us to get tipped, we are considered tipped employees.

I work as a poker dealer in Vegas and as sad as it is, some players no matter how well they are playing do not tip anything. But for the most part I usually get 1 dollar on a small pot, and up to 4-5 dollar in a big pot in a no limit game. It also depends on how good you deal, and how many people you know where you deal. I find a lot of my local players tip me better then tourist do. But in a 2-4 limit game I'll get 1-2 dollars a pot, and if I'm dealing a no limit game, and the pot gets huge i can get 4-5 dollars. On average you can walk out with 325-500 a night in the right casino if you are a dealer.

You can always tip people in casinos. Those who don't accept tips know they can't and will politely refuse them. The people who pay hand pay slot winnings, bingo runners, chip runners at poker tables, cage cashiers and especially DEALERS all make their money from tips.
Most dealers make a marginal wage and rely on tips as income. In poker, i usually tip at least one chip (depending on the game in can be between 1-5 or more in other states than az) per win and then 2-5 depending on the pot size. Blackjack dealers should be tipped on big wins and blackjacks. Think of them as waiters, they can't be responsible for the product, they are just delivering it and a tip is a good thank you.

There as been a decent amount of discussion on tipping on the "Wizard of Odds" website.

If the dealer is good and entertaining you should tip a few bucks an hour. At the live poker tables, tipping the dealer $1/pot is fairly commonplace...personally i think thats a bit excessive...because they get close to 30 hands/hr in. If everyone at a blackjack table would tip a few bucks an hour regardless of their win/loss record (giving the dealer ~$20/hr), the dealer would probably faint.

When I play cards, I usually toss them a chip or two. For example, if I win a big pot (50-100) bucks on the 2-4 limit tables(Texas hold-em), I toss them a couple of 2 dollar chips.
