If you're invited to the wedding and/or reception and there is a gift registry, of course you should. But otherwise, it's not neccessary, expected or customary to give a wedding present to someone who didnt invite you to the wedding.

If you've developed a more personal relationship/friendship with her, it would be a nice gesture, but not expected. My husband and I are in the same boat with his trainer. We have become friends with the couple, and were invited to the wedding, but because it was out of state we couldn't go. We did, however, get them a nice gift card which is what they wanted.

At the very least, a best wishes card (not a gift card) would certainly be appropriate.

It would be a nice way to show what kind of person you are.
I suggest some thing small but tasteful

I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as it's just something small. =)
