Why don't people tip Tow Truck Drivers? Why do commuters disrespect big trucks so much?

People should tip auto transporters always, they don't get paid much and the are taking care of your car. Whether its a break down, or new car delivery, because for however many miles he has driven he has been concerned for the saftey of your vehicle. People commuting always cut in front of big trucks and brake or ride the shoulder to pass at onramps, or cut over three lanes to exit. Does anyone care that they are driving like complete idiots and are making traffic worse for everybody? Is anyone paying attention?

I drive a garbage truck and completely understand, most poeple see a big truck and assume i is slow, it is, its slow to slow it down when you cut right in front of me to turn into a driveway. I fell the pain on tips too, I got a total of 15 bucks last year, and I service over 5000 homes a week, and poeple wonder why there trash carts are all over the place now, why should I give a rats ***, if you cant eevn just give me a card that just says thank you when I am out there in sub zero tempatures.

I have no comment on tow truck drivers as I (knock on wood) have rarely if ever required one.

I DO however operate a semi in the Tampa, FL area and can attest that people seem oblivious to what is behind them. Granted I stick to the center lane and keep a steady 75mph which is 5 mph over the posted speed, I can not understand when the left lane is free, people make a point of passing on the right. WHY??! People cut in front of me when I am hauling shingles, roofing rolls (tar paper) and even roof tile (think thin cinder blocks)!!!! If you signal, I will do my best to let you in, but when you abruptly swerve in front of me and almost collide with the car merging with its turn signal on from the left.... how do you think that makes me feel??? I am operating a 77,000# vehicle that CAN NOT STOP ON A DIME!!!!! I could care less if your sports car can, just signal and you may go ahead. I'm not claiming to be a complete pushover and yield to everyone, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve after 1,000,000 + miles.

The last maneuver I will rant about is the light speed right lane squeeze play. The one where someone tries to squeeze between my tractor and the rear bumper of the family of 6 that's on vacation.... what posseses people to think that they will fit??? I'm going a lot faster than I appear to be and am happy to share the road, but the final thought I wish to part on is this: I don't come into your office and act like an animal and cut you off between your desk and office chair, please discontinue doing it to the true professionals who supply our nation with its goods.

When I crashed my car I didnt tip the tow truck driver, instead I was wondering how I was going to pay for a new car!

As for 18-wheelers, I know what you mean, it's a mentalitiy. My friend was driving one day in a 65 zone, going 75, the truck infront of him was also going 75, he cursed at the driver and took it up to around 85 to pass him, and dropped down to 75 again. No logic behind that one.

and I dont cut infront of trucks when they're slowing down in the right lane to come to a stop, I have seen a few almost hit cars that did that to them, but I think a really good driver would accomodate for that happening and figure to stop 1 or 2 car distances behind the line.

Apparently many people can't see that huge 40+ ton truck in their rearview mirror, then they wonder why they're expensive sports car gets turned into millions of pieces. Same reason people pull out in front of trucks pulling trailers, apparently since we have extra wheels we can stop sooner NOT!!!!.

I think that people should tip tow truck drivers, I personally haven't had to call a wrecker, but those guys always seem to be busy, now I wouldn't tip drivers from major car companies like Ford, Chevy, etc. But private owned companies I would because they aren't paid very well, and most of them have to spend their own money on fuel, and maintenance on their trucks.

uhm actually i rarely see anyone honking their horn at an 18 wheeler. most people just pass them on the left lane if they are in a hurry. they are the safest, most respected drivers on the road. Tow truck drivers on the other hand are a totally different story, they deserve no special attention, have no formal training, and are actually very nescient of traffic rules.

If you lived here in Houston you would quickly find out your answer. Fact is wrecker drivers are price gouging scums and truck drivers are even worse. Not all mind you but a whole lot of them.

i don't deal with tow trucks; i rely on friends for help. i respect big trucks when i commute. those that disrespect trucks probably don't stop there...
