for the sake of argument. the question "if we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys" is still an invalid argument.

based on the principles of evolution, it makes perfect sense that there would still be monkeys. some of the monkeys simply left the damn jungle (perhaps because of low food supply in their area or something) and went somewhere else where they evolved and adapted to their new environment. the monkeys that stayed behind didn't evolve into humans because they didn't need to because they were already adapted to their environment.

either way, the argument is invalid. so stop asking it already.

snooter: there were other species of humans. they simple weren't adapted to their environment and died out. example: neandertals. they died out and we did not evolve from them.

brett: no what?

again, just for the sake of argument, if we did evolve from monkeys, it's plausable that a small group left. so they were more likely to change than the larger group that left behind.

tim: yeah, we know that. hence why i said "for the sake of argument"

you can take the man out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the man

I think we see modern evolution in progress, some chose to seek a different environment and end up in a concrete jungle with it's own ecosphere and survival rules

I see when circumstances change and we do not adapt or evolve, we die

some environment have not changed, like people finding that ancient fish that gives live birth instead of eggs, the coelacanth

I think that you are correct. IF we and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor, it would reason that both we and monkeys could co-exist.

Here's a problem though - if we evolved, and evolution comes from "stretching" to meet a need (example - giraffe's long neck).... why do we have a brain that is "over-sized"? Most scientists agree that we use less than 15% of our brain's ability. When in our history did we need so much brain power?

From a creationist's viewpoint, Adam and Eve DID use all of it. We have gradually decreased our use of it since then.

evolution does not explain human existance.
It merely explains why some pacific turtles are green and others are red.
Even darwin said he was not trying to tie all that exisists together. He admitted that there are flaws and even acknowledged the probability of a higher power.
Evolution is merely another term for adaptation; if evolution was real we would have wings instead of airplanes and dogs would talk.
I say this based on the premise that evolution is a grab bag of traits that occur at random throughout the interlinked natural world. Without examples of such profound oddities on a wide scale...Evolution is false as an explanation of our origin. Last but not least if monkeys and humans are related show me the missing link... Oh and George bush don't count!!

No scientist said we evolved from monkeys. The theory is that humans evolved from a line of primates one branch of which was the apes and monkeys.

Totally using your assumption and your argument..

If evolution is a valid argument and we evolved from monkeys and it's fine that there are still monkeys around then why have we not seen any living in the 'in between' stages as I am sure some would have evolved just to the point they needed to and stopped.

Seems to me there should be colonies of monkeys in all stages of evolution.

We did not evolve. We were made what we are. Everything adapts to its circumstances but nothing evolves.

As the old creatures are dying off, where are all the new ones? What happened to evoloution? The more humans "evolve" the more unnatural, alien and unfit they become, it is because there is no such thing as evolution, just hairbrained humanist/satanic 'pie in the sky' theories that people use to rationalize there wretchid behaviour and paradigms.

Good argument, although we know that evolution does not state that we evolved from monkeys.

We SHARE a common ancestor. responsible for the various members of the Ape family, including humankind. It is incorrect to believe that we evolved from Chimps, we are distant cousins, who have a far, far, far, distant ancestral relative.

so...maybe the monkeys evolved from us...they just got sick of paying taxes and divorce and went back to a more natural way of living...

i mean just look at the gas prices...

I think the question is redundant too. They say it like there is only one kind of monkey, next they'll be asking " IF there are Spider monkeys why are there Chimpanzees??" Or " IF there are German shepards why are there still Wolves?"
