Another lasting German influence was, up until 2003, the Volkswagen manufacturing site located in the city. Puebla was the last site to produce the now discontinued Volkswagen Beetle, and although the car is no longer manufactured, other German and French companies still operate in the city. Apart from a bustling textile economy, Puebla Mexico also has a score of universities located within the city, boasting more then 20.

there was a headquarters manufacturing plant for the Volkswagen car company...all the "Beetle" models came from that plant
