I am a christian and these are my thoughts:
The Reason Why the World Crumbles~ By Me
Look at the Time when the Israelites were being led out of Egypt. They had it good, and trusted God as they left, but when the ppl did not immediatley see the results they began to doubt and turn against God, wanting to go back to the pain and misery of Egypt. Then once they had made it and God wanted to be the ruler of the ppl, but once again with a lack of faith, the ppl wanted a king that they could see and one that measured up to the standards of man. That i believe is when God let us have our way, He is a God of free choice and we choose not to have Him as our leader, but instead as a "back-pocket" God, meaning that we take Him out when we need Him, and put Him back when things are good.
God still performs miracles but for the most part we have stopped trusting God. We have a great lack of faith, and without God, comes destruction (Noah) God gave man over to their sins and then punished them.
We have to get right with God, if we want to see a change, but I fear that as a nation we are too far gone.

The world is in the mess it's in because the Christians are the most greedy and violent.
Look at the mega wealth of the Catholic Church in Rome, where pennies from the poor worldwide combine to keep the bureaurocracy powerful.
Look at the most powerful countries in the world over the last 500 years and their leaders' devotion to Christianity. All the way from the slavemasters, missionaries and colonizers enthusiastically conquering for 'God and King' or 'God and Queen' (or fighting each other) to today's greedy fundamentalist supported military and corporate thieves sucking the lifeblood out of the lesser-developed world in the name of Christ.

actually Christianity is the reason the world is in the mess it is in today. The wars and disputes in the middle east can be directly linked to the 11th century crusades. before that the Islamic peoples allowed all "people of the Book" to live in harmony in their lands. You had to follow their rules of course...no pork or wine etc. but there was no hatred of other cultures like there is now. After we attacked them (in order to control the trade and tourism of the holy land0 is when that relationship changed...creating the religious fanatics in Islam that you see today. I of course don't have the time to go into the Inquisition and the witch hunts.

After touring the other countries and seeing the extreme poverty that no one in the USA would be allowed to live in.
Starvation and selling of their children to strangers for sex.
women who are abused and know no difference think that this is their lot in life and men who feel no guilt to take multiple wives and threaten wives who love them if they complain. Even helping young wives to adapt to their master.
Lives of quiet desperation. They are terriorists becuase they see no hope out of their miserable lives.
Then on coming home to the USA it was amazing to me that anyone who sees both sides would ever down grade what we have here. From the Islands of Hatti to the borders of Mexico, to just about every other country you see people wanting to come to America. Who come from being an illegal alien to being a doctor. A computer wize.
It is amazing what can happen here. Isn't that because most of us are Christians? We do try to follow the bible?

No, Christianity didn't make the world a mess all by itself. The world started out in a mess. Christianity popped up and became part of the mess.

That's part of the problem, of course. This world needs realistic people. If you'd focus a little more on the problems this planet has, instead of focusing on a fantasy after-life, we could make a difference.
The main problem our planet has to face is selfishness. A part of that selfishness is a person's focus on his/her own trip to 'heaven'.

you believe that your god is all powerful, and all knowing, and that he created everything.
so by your own reasoning he is responsible right?
me i think that it is messed up because of human greed. and the ability of humans to use religion to get other humans to follow them on their path to power and money.
having a god that refuses to take any hand in the path of man kind of makes Christianity (all of the Abrihamic religions really) well suited to this.

And I thought it was the Christians telling us that they had the only truth and it was a Christian nation. So then why is it such a mess?

Religion doesn't, or shouldn't, have any effect on the people in positions of power.

I don't recall anyone saying they had all the answers. I do know you will not find them in a religion.
