Is it possible in Word to number pages to a certain point and then start numbering them from #1 again? (I am writing a paper, the first 8 or 9 pages are copywrite, dedication etc. I want to number these pages with roman numerals. Then when i begin the actual text of my paper, I want to start numbering at #1, and go up from there.) HELP?!

Start with the initial pages, set the page numbering to roman numerals. At the end of the first part, create a section break (next page). You'll see "Footer - Section 1", "Footer - Section 2" On the second section, set the page numbering to regular numbers and reset the page numbering to start at '1'.

This will do it:

1. At the top of the first page after your intro information, click the Insert->Break menu item.
2. Insert a Next Page type section break.
3. Click the Insert->Page Numbers menu item.
4. In the Page Numbers dialog box, click the Format button.
5. Under Page Numbering, click Start At.
6. Click OK.
7. DO NOT CLICK OK ON THE PAGE NUMBERS DIALOG BOX OR YOU'LL INSERT A PAGE NUMBER FIELD. Click CANCEL instead.
8. Go back to the first page of the document.
9. Click the Insert->Page Numbers menu item again.
10. Again click the Format button.
11 Change the Number Format to Roman numerals.
10. Click OK.
11. Again, click CANCEL to get out without putting a page number field in.

That should do it.

you can do this is the header or footer section. start by clicking on the view pull down menu. select header and footer. this will give you a dotted box at the top and bottom of each page. go to the footer and click on the icon for insert page number. it is a sheet of paper with a # symbol. this will start the numbering. click on the icon with a hand holding the paper with the # symbol. this will allow you to format the type of numbers (roman numbers, etc.). when you are done with the first section and are starting the next page in the head and footer box click on page set up icon (open book) . open the layout tab and click on the apply to box and select from this point forward. close the layout and go back to the format page layout icon. you can now select a new numbering scheme and select what number you want to start from.

I tried and you have to create sections.

Then when you click on Insert > Page Numbers

be sure to click where it says Format > and click on Start At.

Change also on top the format of the numbers.

it's a matter of formatting it correctly. first, you may have to make two seperate files, one formatted for the roman numerals, the other for the standard numerals. i don't use word much so i can't tell you how to set it for roman numerals. it may be necessary to add them by hand after you write theat portion.

Why don't you just print out the first part and then start a new document.
