You can't downgrade from Vista to XP. You'll have to wipe the entire hard drive and re-install XP from scratch.

The easiest way is to boot off your XP disk and make sure to re-partition the hard drive at the start of the setup... even if you don't want to repartition. Just delete the partition and re-create it.

Make sure you don't have anything on it you need because this method will remove everything. You will still have no sound and such until you install the correct drivers. Check with the manufacturer of the laptop. Most of the major companies have driver downloads on their websites.

Ha, as you mention you had both XP and Vista installed in the same partition. Did you installed in the same folder as well? If yes i could only say that your Vista system crashed.

You could only now work out with your Windows XP by installing the drivers. I do believed that your laptop is New and believed that the drivers list is not registerd in XP. Go to the main website of your laptop brand and they will always have a guide to install your driver.(Note : Driver in Vista will not be intergrated with XP)

Frankly, if it's me, i'll backup the neccessarys with command promp and format everything. Then recovering it by using the recovery disk.

Try removing Windows XP.

It sounds like you have Vista installed in:

C:\Windows

and Windows XP installed in:

C:\Windows2

Therefore remove C:\Windows2
