If the electric company is the same thing as a poor person...then I have!
Eh, but I'm not Christian.
I do have to defend some Christians on this one. Not everyone has a ton of extra money to go throwing around at others in need. You have to meet your kids and your own needs first.

It doesn't matter what religion you are, people with all different beliefs give to the poor.
You have no right to tell anyone what to do. So many people out there [not just Christians by the way] would like to help the poor but not everyone is financially stable enough for that!
Alot of families need that little bit of extra money to feed their own children, and that's not being greedy, it's being a realist.
If I had bags full of extra money coming in then sure, I'd love to donate to a childrens fund of some sort, but at the moment I only have enough for the neccesities; food, car insurance, toiletries etc.
Don't try to tell people how to spend their hard earned money. I belief that your family comes first, then if you have some extra it's good to give it someone who needs it.

I'd do not have extra money, but if I did I would buy the person what they need and give it gladly. Food? I'd take them grocery shopping. Clothes? $100 can go a long way at the Salvation Army store. No money to pay heat bill? I'd pay the company directly. Reason: I spent a year in a bad city neighborhood, The people knocking on my door asking for money for diapers really wanted to buy drugs, I guess, because when I offered real diapers instead (any size, I bought a supply) they could not leave my doorstep fast enough--and never took the diapers!!
Sounds like you are pretty proud of yourself. Pride is a sin, too.

My dad did actually. We were at a place called "friendlies" and the waitress had been there for a long time and we started talking to her and we learned a lot about her family and how she's stuggling to make ends meet, her husband just got fired, and one of her kids has a birthday coming up. My dad left her a $100.00 tip rolled up inside a $1.00 tip.
We also cancled a vacation so that we could donate $2,000 dollars to a homeless family in Cuba in order to build themselves a good home.
So don't try throwing out your good deeds in our face trying to make yourself look better than others. You have no idea what others do in order to help people so don't judge. And money isn't the only way that you can help either.

Wow you seem bitter. I am a Christian and don't have $100 to give to someone else. Not to mention God leads people to help others in different ways.
the other day I helped a women with her groceries, another time I stopped a kid from running into the road...so are these things less then the $100 you gave someone?
Doesn't it also say in the bible to give without other's knowing? otherwise it is prideful?

So the hundred dollars is the standard now? That's like when the catholic church was selling indulgences. "If you don't give $100, you're going to hell!" No, sorry. You give according to what you can, and it's not always money. I'd rather hand out McDonalds gift certificates than money, to ensure that a poor person buys food, not booze or drugs.

So you feel Christians make you sick if they don't give away $36500 a year without regards to how much they have or earn per year.
But how about yourself? How much did you give away this year? And if you don't live up to your own standard, then how much are you sick of yourself.
Secondly you claim to be a Christian, but Jesus said, "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Mt 6:2-4
Just because you want to boast about how much you give and receive you full reward now, doesn't mean the rest of us have to disclose what we give.

Giving one hundred dollars to a poor is not a charitable act. It is teaching the poor to become a mendicant. An act also of charity is an act not be advertized like what you are doing. You are extremely the obvious example of a hypocrite.

Good for you but the bible also says don't gloat about your good deed. But since we are on the subject I give when I can whether it's 1.00 or .50. By the way, we should be out looking for those in need so we can give, in your case it sounds like the Lord was sending you your own giving message. Even so, you were obedient.

God greatly desires that all His children avoid Hell. This is true.
God loves us. This is true.
However, here's the important one, God is just! This means that people will be judged for breaking his commandments. The punishment for this is Hell.
God prefers that we warn people about their destiny if they fail to accept his gift of salvation.
Your boasting of a $100 dollar gift is not going to mean much to the unrepentant sinner that is being cast into Hell.
Better to spend your time in this activity.
