Well, as someone who grew up in a very backwards baptist church which exclusively focused on the Old Testament only, you would have to get rid of the bible for that to happen because that is where a lot of the basis for the fear, intolerance and hatred is. I was strong enough that even as a small child I did not let the constant threat of hellfire affect me and I left when I was old enough to do so; but many never do and it becomes such a part of them it makes it hard to come to terms with it.

You are right. I think there is a lot of fear w/ some people when it comes to God. I think a lot of it too has to do with the fact that some people just plain don't like God's rules and do not wish to play by them. It states in the Bible that there is a Heaven and a Hell and that we are going to one of those places. That, I think, is what causes most of the fear. What I wish they could understand is that it is not hard or fearful following Christ. There is freedom in Christ. I, personally, like God's rules. I screw up sometimes but - for the most part - I don't have a problem with adhering to them. When I am trying to be in control and "at the wheel" things don't go as smoothly. When I give it all over to God - everything seems to fall into place. I can't explain it but I sure have circumstances in my life that justify it.

When you are sure you are saved, there should be no need for fear. Sometimes people say that certain denominations try to scare people into good behaviour by talking of hell a lot, but I've never been in those; some probably do, so avoid those denominations. (I have heard of some frightful churches, telling people they can lose salvation for quite simple sins even after salvation; it pays to be discriminating). Perhaps for a nonbeliever fear is a big issue, if you think that the christian message is correct. If you think its not true you should not be fearful.
Actually when you believe, its normal for God's love to flood you heart; at least that was my experience, and I've repeatedly known God's love for me. That is because once one's sin is gone God can love one as there is no adverse judgement against one. Romans 8:1 - "There is no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus." Romans 5:5 "God's love has flooded our hearts."

Please explain what do you mean by hate. Who is the hater and who is the hated and what intolerance are you referring to? Is not the country you live in the creator of civil liberties?
Where everyone insists on their own personal freedom?

Intolerance is built into most religions, including Christianity.
That's what you get when you base your world-view on superstitions.
