"It is important that the reformed immigration system is workable and cost efficient," Stanzel said. "Determining the past tax liability would have been very difficult and costly and extremely time consuming."

Stanzel stressed that immigrants would be required to pay a fine of up to $5,000 if they want to apply for a green card to become a legal resident, although that fine is not for failure to pay taxes.

Do you think that would mean ALL LAW ABIDING American's who made an error on their taxes will be 'forgiven' as well?

C'mon Americans! Keep calling, faxing and emailing your reps and let them know you're OUTRAGED!

WRONG DB--they get everything--free medical, food stamps, child care etc, etc.--AND YOU'RE PAYING FOR IT!

The comment that they get nothing for free got me. They don't?? Most I have known are drawing benefits. They work under the table ( stand out on street corners and do day work). They get free medical care, free lunches for their kids, free child care. If they weren't making a killing here, they wouldn't be here. They have the choice to cross back the same way they came.

Americans aren't forgiven anything on their taxes. We don't get money for nothing. We support this country, and the ones who make the laws of this country. Yet our voice is the one not heard.

Do you ever walk into someone else's house and demand the things you want, get them, and then just leave and not get in trouble ( home invasion is the charge)?

Keep fighting America. Copy these posts out and copy them to your email, and spread the word to your friends who don't come here.

They came here to make this country what theirs is. They want it all the way they had it in Mexico, except for all the benefits paid to them by working Americans. Talk about being raped. We are. Someone pass the lube please, I am so sore.

D B watch this and tell me that they get nothing for free again.

I can't help but think the 5,000 dollar thing is a ruse. Illegal immigration has cost us so much they could never pay back what they owe. So it's a fine? A slap on the hand? How many of these illegals will receive a waiver on this 5 grand? How many will immediately go on welfare? Pays better than their under the table wages, right? What about assimilation? Will they all be required to take the citizenship test? In English? Isn't that a requirement for citizenship? Or will that be asking too much. This whole thing s**ks. I used that language with McCain. Am I being too confrontational? Too disagreeable?

And they said it wasn't amnesty .... looks like they have Bush in their pocket and will get a free ride just like in 1986. Since his action is not part of the bill, but taking a part out, most people will miss this point.

Already contacted all of mine, hope everyone else does also because the pro-illegal supporters have mounted a phone in campaign to tie up the lines in favor of the bill.

It appears that at this time the bill will not pass the Senate. There are 20 republicans saying no way, not on our watch.

Keep the pressure on the Senate, we are not there yet.

If I were a betting man, I do not think this will ever see Bush's desk.

I believe that all legal Americans should receive a 5K credit on their income taxes. If they owe 5K next year, it's a wash. If they are getting a refund, you pay off the 5K over 2 years...so if you are getting an actual refund of 500, you add 2500 to it. It spreads out the fiscal impact, and makes this fair. No refund to Americans? Throw them (illegal aliens) all out and start enforcing the damn laws.

Don't forget. If I break into someone's home, and stay there, they shouldn't be allowed to kick me out. I want amnesty!

Yes, I am paying for it, and as long as it's being used and the government isn't keeping it, I'M FINE WITH IT!

WIth their low incomes, do you really believe very many of them would actually have taxes to pay? In most cases, they'd probably have refunds coming to them.

COME ON YOURSELF! THINK about what you're saying.
