Bush would then have no choice but to bring the troops all home, or face the wrath of the American people for leaving them there unfunded and vulnerable. The American public has made it clear that they don't want us to be in Iraq.

This answer is easy: because Democrats, despite their rhetoric, know that a majority of this country DO NOT support them.

The last election was not about electing the Democrats, it was about FIRING the Republicans, to teach them a lesson, that they need to return to the core beliefs of conservative Americans, who dominate this country. The Dems KNOW this, and any action that would infuriate the MAJORITY will get them fired. Unfortunately for them, by placating the majority, they risk angering their (Loony, Left-Wing, Liberal) BASE, resulting in getting them fired too.

Poor Dems, have no real recourse.

Two words: political suicide.

Putting your own views on the war aside, whether it is just or not, the reason anyone is reluctant to cut funding has to do with the troops rather than the war. By trying to call the bluff of the other party, from either side of the fence, each party will have responsibility in directly harming our military.

Neither democrats nor republicans in Washington will feel the direct effect of funding cuts; our troops facing combat each and every day will! Cutting funding or refusing to pull out after a funding cut, either one, directly results in American lives lost. I will not join in the debate over the war itself, as I have an obligation to lead soldiers where ever I am sent. However, I can say that if my men do not get the supplies they need and suffer as a result, all politicians need to be reevaluating their own personal agendas from their comfy Washington offices!

Good question. The reason, of course, is Politics. The Dems have been highly critical of the war since it's an easy way to attack the president. It worked, it won them Congress in '06. Now, however, they're faced with the delicate task of using that mandate to lose the war, without taking the blame for losing the war.

Simply de-funding the War would allow the Republicans to claim that the Dems 'surrendered.' That'd be politically inconvenient for the Dems, so, to save any such embarassement, they have to find a way to place the blame for the loss on the president, while taking the credit for 'ending' the war, themselves.

So far, it's been a long battle. The Dems will try to pass legislation that the president /must/ veto (like the initial time table bill). That way, they show an effort to 'end' the war, but do not have to face the consequences of 'losing' it.

How could he bring them home if he has no money, it costs money to move the military. And congress has no authority to do that. If they did it would bring the Supreme Court into it and the congress would lose and be severely embarrassed. And in the mean our enemy keeps killing because they see Americans as weak and about to cut and run like cowards. Then the next 9/11 is going to happen. What are you prepared to do when that happens?

Check the latest polls. The American people would like to see us succeed in Iraq. The Dems ran on the premise that the people were tired of the war, when in fact it was not so. The reason they won't pull funds for the troops is they fear for their political hides.

Let me get this straight. We have millions of troops over seas and you want our government to cut the already-too-small budget that they have. How smart would that be? Make our troops go without the equipment they need just to try and get the president to bring them home. Is that supposed to show them how much we support their hard work over there? I'll tell you what you should do. Pull your bottom lip up over you head and swallow and rid the world of one less idiot!!!

Reason is the Dems and the Repubs are so much alike, nothing will change, even if Bush were to resign and leave the Dems in charge of everything, nothing would change, just the names.
When it comes to the latest polls, The American people do want the troops home, and now. They are smart enough to realize we cannot win this war, and there is no clear mission as some claim. Bush got us in there under false pretenses, and has no idea how to get out.

They have no guts to do that. And even they do, they still don't have enough skill to collect enough votes.

And Republicans want to protect their party not the troops, so they won't vote to make themselves look like a failure.

The Democrats have no guts at all. They talk a good game but it all reverts back to the old Democrat agenda.......all emotion and no substance.
