#1 your prayer language - speaking in tongues - will not sound like anyone else's. It will be special and unique to you.
#2 there are several gifts and fruits of the holy spirit:
The Catechism of the Catholic Church has this to say about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit:
"The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: 'charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.'"
Here are the names of the seven gifts, as given[2] in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, along with a description of each gift, as defined[3] by St. Thomas Aquinas in the Summa Theologica:
Wisdom - The gift of wisdom perfects a person's speculative reason in matters of judgment about the truth.
Understanding - Also called "Common Sense." The gift of understanding perfects a person's speculative reason in the apprehension of truth. It is the gift "whereby self-evident principles are known."[4]
Knowledge - The gift of knowledge perfects a person's practical reason in matters of judgment about the truth.
Counsel - Also called "Right Judgment." The gift of counsel perfects a person's practical reason in the apprehension of truth and allows the person to respond prudently, "moved through the research of reason."
Fortitude - Also called "Courage." The gift of fortitude allows people the "firmness of mind [that] is required both in doing good and in enduring evil, especially with regard to goods or evils that are difficult."
Piety - Piety is the gift "whereby, at the Holy Spirit's instigation, we pay worship and duty to God as our Father."
Fear of the Lord - Also called "Wonder and Awe in God." This gift is described by Aquinas as a fear of separating oneself from God. He describes the gift as a "filial fear," like a child's fear of offending his father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a fear of punishment.
**with that in mind, remember that the closer you come to God, the more that the devil is going to try to make you think that you are indeed not becoming closer to him.

First of all, if u are speaking in tongues, and do not know what u are saying, then u are not speaking in tongues, u are speaking words without meanings which is called 'gibberish' (no offence). When the disciples spoke in tongues, they were speaking the languages of different people who were not Hebrew.
Secondly, there are also 'unholy spirits' that roam the earth. The description of the Holy spirit in the scriptures, is a peaceful spirit that calms u. It gives u a feeling of wanting to laugh & cry at the same time. (check back & see if u've felt this before at anytime). The holy spirit won't snatch a 60 yr old lady off a chair and throw her on the floor, reacting as though she has epilepsy. That is an 'unholy spirit' because this did not happen when the holy spirit descended on Jesus at the river. It descended like a dove it says.
Lastly when it comes, and the body is mentally, emotinally, physically & spiritually clean & ready, the spirit won't come and go. It will stay with u forever.
Take notice when u are in church next and see who gets the 'holy spirit' all the time in there, watch their actions and see if they carry these actions with them in their everyday life. If not, then that is not the Holy Spirit because it is not limited by the walls of the church. It will be with u everywhere u go.

tongues aren't supposed to sound like everyone else's. tongues is your personal communication with the Holy Spirit, whether you understand what you're saying fully or not, and words take on different meanings.
the Holy Spirit isn't some magical energy. you don't necessarily 'feel' anything when you receive Him. He's in you, not just around you, and no, you won't go to Hell if you're speaking in tongues and you're not sure if you're doing it right. You go to Hell for rejecting Christ as your Lord and Savior.of course it's possible to feel something, but for me, I don't feel anything when I believe the Spirit is leading me.
faith is just something you need to build. it doesn't come over night. trust in Him more, and know that He will not condemn you if you are saved.
oh, and it's only false-tongues if you're actually devising the language yourself, or if you're saying a bunch of random words or sounds. so don't worry.

Well not all people will speak in tongues. There are a lot of people that want to appear to be filled with the spirit so they just make noises. It's sad really. Just do what feels right. It seems to me like you are thinking about it too much.. you want something to happen but it's not. Don't worry about it. You probably go to a pentacostal church where you're not cool unless you swing from the chandeliers. Don't think about what other people do, just be real and worship how you want to.

It's figuritive not literal. Some times religous people tend to forget that. The funny thing about speaking in tounges is that when it happened in the Bible people began speaking in other languages they did not know. They did not start spouting meaningless gibberish. Don't let dogma shake your faith or make you feel inferior. Often times when they push ideas like that in your face it can drive you away from religion, and make you feel resentment. If God exists then he is a ebing complex enough to create life. Recognize that man would be incapable of relating to something that complex, and would naturally create myths and rituals to make it seem more human. You are not a bad person because you don't feel anything super natural when you pray or worship at church. It's nothing more than an emotional responce, and isn't the biproduct of anything more than that. Aboslutely do not let that shake your faith in God, and do not listen to others if they betrate you for it.

Tongues is different for each person, for one thing.
But, if you have yielded your heart to do what God wants and desire the Holy Spirit to guide you or give you what you need when you need it, you will see Him go to work.
Doubts are normal. Actually, to some degree, they show us how to have faith. There is no sin in doubting - it is only bad when we yield to doubting that which we know God is saying or doing. Read "Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel. Lots of good stuff, including a chapter about doubts.
When Peter doubted on the water, he only sank because he reasoned with the doubt. He began to agree with the doubt. So, to doubt is normal, we are only human. But, the better choice is to believe, which is to agree with what God says. Then, faith is taking belief and putting some shoes on it.
In Prov. 3:5-6, it says "...lean not on your own understanding...". Notice, it does not say, "deny, or don't even have your own understanding." To lean is to rely upon something to hold you up, like a wall that you may lean on, or a friend who helps you to walk if you were hurt. We will have our own understanding, which can cause doubt. But, the Lord wants us to "...acknowledge Him in all our ways..." So, as the doubts creep up, we need to remember what God has said or is doing.
Also, the Holy Spirit uses each person differently and whenever He sees fit - see 1 Cor., ch. 12.
Keep seeking the Lord. Seek the scriptures.

Ask God for the witness of the Spirit.
Whatever you ask for, believe you have already recieved it, and you shall have what you ask.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth.
Sometimes you feel the power of the anointing , but the Spirit is always with you.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit". Rom. 8:1.
Believe and walk in the Light.
God make you happy.

I really want you to know that speaking in tongues is not a sign of having the Spirit! The Bible makes no mention of that. It does, however, say that you already have Him the moment you accept Christ. Believe. Ask for what people are saying in writing. Keep reading the Word yourself. If you are His, He will guide you.

You can tell when the holy spirit is around you when you stop using your brain and give in to what other people are telling you. In other words you begin to act crazy.
