First, numbing drops are used to anesthetise the eye, then an instrument called a microkeratome is placed over the eye at a precise angle. The microkeratome is held in place by a gentle vacuum. The surgeon will then start the microkeratome, will will then make a very clean incision of the cornea.
NO sutures are involved with LASIK surgery. One the surgery is complete, the surgeon will then place the hinged corneal flap back in position and smooth it. You may feel a slightly gritty feeling as your eye heals. The flap will adhere to the eye without any problems.

firstly your eye is numbed so you don't feel a thing, they cover the eye they are not working on. They clamp your eye open so that you don't blink, but it still feels like you are. This is the most uncomfortable bit but it doesn't hurt. It then all goes black for a few seconds, which is then that they cut the cornea. You honestly don't feel a single thing. The cutter is then taken away and you hear lots of clicks which is the laser, the cornea is then layed back down, clamp removed and eyes is squirted with liquids, job done. While this is all being done you don't feel anything at all, it just looks like someone is waving things close to your eye and not actually touching you. Go for it, my only regret was that i didn't do it sooner.

Just the way you described it. The laser procedureis very quick, and operates almost like a cookie cutter. Then disolvable sutures are used to hold the incision and healing tissue. We've come a long way from the time of having your face hacked at and being packed in sand bags until the cornea couldnt move anymore!
Note: I'm sorry, I read htis wrong. I thought you were talking about corneal transplant...listen to the guy at the bottom!

Go to YouTube and search for Lasik Eye Sugery. You'll see exactly what happens. I have met dozens of people who had the procedure done and not one complained of pain. It's a very quick procedure.
