let me clear something up before you guys start answering. I know a lot of people draw the assumption that gay people are gay because they choose to be however this just isn't the case. A person does not CHOOSE to be attracted to the same sex and if you think I'm wrong in saying this then ask yourself "did you CHOOSE to be attracted to the opposite sex?" I'm guessing the answer would be "no" because you can't choose which gender your attracted to anymore than you can choose the color of your eyes. Now keeping this in mind I would like to see if anyone can answer my question. Where in the bible does it say homosexuality is wrong (feel free to quote) and, more importantly why is it in there at all. After all since a person is either born gay or not then wouldn't calling homosexuality a sin be condemning someone for being born a certain way. You may as well condemn someone for having brown eyes. you would still be condemning them for something they have no control over.

I've already had two people say that I am wrong in stating that homosexuality isn't a choice. Let me just say that I did not get that idea from myself but from others who have specifically stated that it isn't a choice you either are or you aren't. I have heard it in TV shows in movies read it on this very board and heard it told to me by others and not just gays themselves in fact most of the ones saying this, to the best of my knowledge, were straight or played straight people (in terms of movies and what not)

Most people have not carefully and prayerfully researched the biblical texts often used to condemn God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children.
Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior.
The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.
Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way -- and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today.
The Bible is a book about God -- not a book about human sexuality.
We miss what these passages say about God when we spend so much time debating what they say about sex.
The biblical authors are silent about homosexual orientation as we know it today. They neither approve it nor condemn it.

The Bible is not the law of the land. Period. The First Amendment to the US Constitution, regardless of whether you like it, forbids entanglement of religion with the state. That is why it admonishes that Congress cannot make laws respecting the establishment of religion [emph. added]. Laws must have a secular pupose. Laws may not cause excessive entanglement with religion. Clearly limiting marriage to heterosexuals for the sake of something the Bible says would breach the limitations laid out in the First Amendment.

Incidentally, the Fourteenth Amendment explicitly applies the limitations set forth in the Constitution to the states.

And as Reverend Lovejoy once said in The Simpsons, "The bible says a lot of things." The bible condemns everything from eating shellfish to wearing clothing of blended fibers to touching a woman during her menstrual period to allowing women to speak at church. Most people preaching against homosexuality from the Bible just take a verse or two out of context, cherry picking what they need to justify their prejudices, while ignoring other "condemned" things entirely.

You are asking two different questions.

I think that you already know where in the Bible that homosexual sex is forbidden, so we will skip that part, since I gather from your response that it wouldn't make any difference what the bible says about it anyway.

It may be true that none of us chooses our particular temptations -- does an alcoholic or a drug addict choose his particular weakness? Probably not, but we don't have to act on our impulses, now do we? If you choose to indulge an impulse, it eventually becomes an ingrained habit, and at that point, it becomes hard to change, because people are set in their ways.

BTW, if people are born either gay or straight, then how do you explain bisexuality?

I had no idea about sex, or gender, when I was a kid -- sure, I knew that girls usually wore dresses, and that some people said that they had cooties, but I had no feelings for either girls or guys (I had both close female friends, and close male friends, and I could play equally well with either set of friends.). Saying that I was either gay or straight at that point would have been miss-descriptive, because I was obviously asexual with no feelings either way. I suspect that most other kids were the same. Just because someone played with dolls as a child, or liked dancing instead of playing football, doesn't mean that he is doomed to be a gay person who HAS to have sex with men when he is older. What PC nonsense!

I suspect that most, but probably not all, kids are somewhat bisexual when they hit puberty. We become attracted to the opposite sex because we are conditioned to think that this is acceptable. After awhile, that way of thinking becomes ingrained into our subconscious as a habit, and we think that it was automatic because we tend to forget our confusing & painful early adolescence.

Human sexuality is a complex thing that is driven by many forces, but usually when one wants sex, what that person really wants on a subconscious level is affirmation, not necessarily physical touching (if sex were purely physical, then you could simply do it all by yourself). People want sex, because they view sex as the ultimate form of attention, and thus the ultimate form of affirmation. It appears that those who lacked attention from their fathers growing up tend to turn to sex as a way of getting male attention. We know that women who have a bad relationship with their father tend to be promiscuous people who have a strong sexual appetite, while women who had a good relation with their father are usually not, so why is it not reasonable to assume that something similar happens in the minds of certain men to make them gay?

===edit===

In response to the people who said that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality, Jesus did state in Matthew chapter 19 that God's intention from the beginning is for sex to be between a male and a female who were married. The only acceptable alternative in God's eyes was being celibate (literally, a "eunuch").

Leviticus is one of the versus that condemns male on male but nothing condemns lesbianism,18:22 to be specific. If you continue reading it also states eating shellfish, picking up sicks on Saturday, shaving your head or beard, and wearing clothing of two different textiles are all hell worthy offenses. So altogether nothing that anyone else doesn't already do.

Rom. 1:24-27: “God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them . . . God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.”

1 Tim. 1:9-11: “Law is promulgated, not for a righteous man, but for persons lawless and unruly, ungodly and sinners, . . . fornicators, men who lie with males, . . . and whatever other thing is in opposition to the healthful teaching according to the glorious good news of the happy God.”

Jude 7: “Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities about them, after they . . . [had] gone out after flesh for unnatural use, are placed before us as a warning example by undergoing the judicial punishment of everlasting fire.

first of all its logical that if marrage is betwean a man and a woman and you can ony have sexual acts with your spouce so two men or weman cannot marry therefor cannot have sexual acts with yeach other

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

"If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13)

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable" (Leviticus 18:22)

21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. (Romans 1:21-27)

Romans chapter 1 talks about homosexuality. However, no one is born gay. This is a lie from the pit of hell, to deceive people. I have to talk to many homosexuals over the past and all have a different past on what lead them to homosexuality. For example, a mother who used to dress her son in girls clothes and taught him to sit down and pee in stead of standing up. This man did not have a father in his life to teach him how to be a man, so he went and looked for that father figure in another man. Also, I have known homosexuals who were molested as children by people of the same sex and they ended up walking in that life style. Moreover, men who are raped by other men in prison , jail, or somewhere else. They are so traumatized by the experience they can't gather their self-esteem again and end up living a homosexual life style. I could go on. But my point is not to bash homosexuals. Alot of them have been environments where they have been "cultured" or "manipulated" into that lifestyle by the devil. Alot of them did not choose to be that way, but the environment and people in their lives at that time had a big influence. So, I do love the homosexual and I have seen God work in their lives. All people are born into something when they come into this world that they did not choose, but once we learn the truth, we have to walk in it.

The bible first speaks of homosexual practices with regard to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is also outlawed in the Levitical laws. In the new testament, the Book of Romans, first chapter, speaks of it being a sin.

We need to be clear about something: the argument over the source of homosexuality within a person's makeup is irrelevant. It is a sin to God, period.

First of all you're being presumptuous as to the nature of homosexuality. The Bible says:

Rom 1:
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator— who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Furthermore it says,"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." 1Cor 6:9,10

And also

Jude 1:7 "In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

Not to mention: Le 18:22 "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Sexual was designed for a marriage relationship consisting of one man and one woman - and thus the precedent of Adam and Eve. As Jesus said, "at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’" Mark 10:6-8

Sex outside such a marriage is sexual immorality. Homosexuals defy God's design and intention - not to mention their minds are so depraved they can't figure out what their penises were made for.
