FYI, my dog is the best dog ever! She's smarter than most people, I swear. And she's so cute! Is it wrong that I would choose my dog over a potential boyfriend? (And for anyone even thinking about making some sick comment, don't waste your time)

For those of you who say I'm obsessed with my dog...damn right I am! I carry a photo keychain of her on my keys (along with a couple "I Love My Dog" keychains) and have a photo album of pictures of her (baby pictures, her first haircut, birthdays, etc.) She also has well over 100 toys (I keep them in a 50 gallon tote and it's overflowing). So yes, I'm obsessed and proud of it!!!!!

No, it is fine! Why would you want to continue with a guy that doesn't like a good dog? WTH is wrong with him? I like my dogs more than most people anyway. Get rid of the guy now, brfore you fall in love and he asks you to get rid of the dog.

One of my friends once told her dog-hating boyfriend: "This dog was here before you, and he'll be here long after you're gone." LOL...but true.

I think you made an excellent choice.

I would dump a guy if he hated my dog! Maybe if he just wasn't in love with dogs I would consider him, but not liking a dog to me presents a certain type of person that I would not associate with. I have two large dogs and I wouldn't get rid of them for anything. It has nothing to do with maturity; people pick home around what is has to offer for their animals, it's a personality type. If your an animal lover and want to be surrounded by animals, how could you be a good fit for someone who dosen't. It would cause a lot of confilict.

no it is not wrong. whatever is in your life someone else should accept if they are going to also be in your life- especially something like a pet which is more personal than a lot of things. Good move on dumping the guy. Your dog will always be there for you and will love you even more for getting rid of "the enemy"!!

If you're dog is going to be there awhile, then any candidate should at least be civil with your dog. If he makes negative comments about your pooch, then he probably isn't compatible with you. Think about it, the dog is a part of the package that is you. If he can't deal with it, then he is rejecting a small piece that is you. There are plenty of great guys out there who won't mind your dog.

I'd say give your boyfriend time to make friends with your dog. He will get used to it after some time with your dog. I never liked coffee but after having just little tiny amounts every here and there, I eventually got used to the taste( I LOVE COFFEE!!!!). If you can see, the two stories are very similar.

i would dump him too.i have cats and i met someone who hated them,i did not even hesitate to pull the plug! my cats are so special, the kittens are both 3weeks old.and no potential boyfriend is gonna ruin my relationship with my pets.

my friend gave up her daughters dog for her boyfriend and it broke the poor kid's heart! on fathers days the little girl went to visit her dog,and the mom followed her,the stepfather was out drinking came home drunk to an empty house!
when the mom and her kid arrived he ask them where they were, they told him (to see the dog) he got upset, jealous raving mad and started hitting the mother, the mother was unconscious for awhile and her bf ran out leaving her to die....
i can never understand the mind of a man,and i wont even try.
all i know is am not giving up my pets.
thanks for sharing and goodbye!

It depends on how much you like this guy. If you're ready to dump him because he doesn't like your dog...it doesnt sound like any kind of unconditional love or anything. I would go for someone who is more of a dog lover....theres plenty of guys out there that love dogs, maybe you'll find one that has one himself and you guys can walk them together. Thats always fun!! Good luck girl =)

Ok first of all, my dogs are the best dogs ever! :) Anyway, no I don't think it's wrong. My dogs mean a lot to me and if a guy doesn't get that, then he's history!

I don't think it is wrong at all. I hate it when people give up a pet because the new bf or gf or spouse or whatever doesn't like it. That's stupid. I would choose my pet over a future man anyday.

Clearly, you and your dog are a package deal and that's okay. If he dind't like your dog, that would have been a source of conflict for your entire relationship. Best to end it before it gets too complicated.
