You will have to read Rom 13:1. It talks about how God established the authorities and we are to be subject to them. So, as long as the law in that country does not violate the principles of God, you are to observed them. If it says you are to have a piece of paper then, you have to have that paper. If the law said you did not need a paper, then that would be the law you would have to observed. Remember someone ask Jesus about paying taxes to Caesar. And Jesus responded to give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and give to God the things that are God's.

Actually, in the old testament, there was a marriage ceremony and a writ of divorce. Both held as much legal status as today's marriage license and divorce decree. The marriage was a covenant before GOD. Living together is none of these. If you want to be married, go get a $10 license.

It's organized religion!
They decided to add lib their own rules to the Bible to support their own judgemental beliefs.
I am married but by JOP-not in a church.
We didn't need to have our ceremony take place in a building as if that's the only place where God is and it would only be real if it were done there.
God is omnipresent.
And I honestly don't give a rat's behind what the cathoilc church has to say about my marriage. They donot speak for God. They just like everyone to believe that they do.

I think it's the attitude of your heart. No formal ceremony is required. Your girlfried can just start using your last name as if you were married. If you declare to both of your families that this is the person you will spend the rest of your life with, then it's quite possible that you are married. The only requirement for marriage is committment to one another by both parties and to God.

That's not so. Although the way they did things were different, they had both binding marriage and divorce, since Jesus addressed it.

Times change and we do things on paper now...because it's in more supply! No such thing as "married in your hearts". This is an excuse of people who simply don't want to do what is legal.

I think you are confused the scriptures first passed down to man would be the books of Moses and they speak of marriage. The law was brought down to Moses in 1500 BC. From this time of law we have had marriage and we now live under the grace and fulfillment of the law but are in agreement with law we are by faith changed to God's righteousness.

Marriage was a God-established institution. If there is no acknowledgement of God, there is no marriage. Even Adam and Eve were considered married in God's eyes.

The marriage ceremony involves making a commitment with your families and friends as witnesses.

If you have done that, you're married.

You don't need a "marriage license" to be married.

It isn't the 'wrong' or 'right' of 'living together' that matters but the legal status of both parties for healthcare, insurance, property ownership, custody of children, and other issues.

Have you been under a rock all this time, since biblical days?
