well Those people were not serving God, but trying to reach heaven their own way thinking that they could do it themselves. They were not trying to communicate with God, but invade heaven and become Gods.. God put a stop to it..

Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

The Tower of Babel is a description of how the Sumerians were assimilated into the Babylonians. It was included in Genesis as a lesson to the Jewish exiles in Babylon that they should not abandon their language and customs. God did not 'confound the languages' as an act of judgment. To the Jews, any historical event was the will of God. It might help to understand the event better if you read up on the history- study the fall of Sumerian civilization - then the story will make a lot more sense.

The people in the Tower of Babel were not cooperating with each other for the glory of God but for their own pride and glory. God had already promised them that He would not again flood the earth yet they decided to build a tower to heaven to escape the next flood. They showed a complete lack of faith and total disregard to God's word. Therefore, God determined that they were full of mischief and the only way to humble them was to split them up so that they would have to fend for themselves again. Unable to communicate, they wandered off in small groups to harvest the land and begin anew.
The issue was one of pride v. humility, not cooperation amongst men.

He did this in the Tower of Babel because they were trying to build a tower that would reach to heaven. God despised their arrogance and caused them to speak different languages so that they could not finish the tower, but that does not mean that in this present day that God does not want all of us to love one another.

It was the Tower of Babel. They were building it to try and get to heaven. God was so angry about this and said that if they could plot together to do something like that, what else would they be capable of. He then split them up and gave them different languages so that they couldn't conspire to do more.

we're not all His children, only those who are born again into His family. When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, it was like a declaration of "God's evil" and independence apart from God. so man basically "disowned" his/her Father, and therefore, needs to be re-adopted: born again into the Family.

so He asks His people to get along with everybody the best they can. He doesn't really expect anything from other religions.

the Tower of Babel was man's declaration against the superiority of God. basically, they said 'we will show God up and get to Heaven on our own will' and then came up with the inane plan to reach Heaven by climbing up stairs. 1st off, God didn't want sinners to all plot against Him as if they agreed on this matter, then they would agree to try and stop righteousness even more in the future, and secondly.... hello, lack of oxygen? trying to reach a misconceieved notion of Heaven?

God knew that when they built the tower high enough, they would start dropping off like flies. Rather than have dead people galore, He confused their language, and they scattered.

And isn't the magnificent beauty of all the different languages wonderful? Especially knowing one day you will understand and speak them all?

They were in defiance of God and stupidly thought they could reach into Heaven, this was the sin of arrogant pride and they paid the price for it.

I am not quite sure. Why not read up on it in the bible. If you read the conditions of why they were building the tower you will get your answer.

I think part of the answer lies in the first part of your question:
If God want's "his children" from EVERY religion [emphasis added]

God does not refer to all men as His children, only those who are born again.

As for scattering them, God had already given commandment to man that they were fill the earth, not that they were to settle in one spot. The scattering was done to cause them to fulfill his will, and to prevent them from attempting to function without Him.
