On approach to a roundabout with 2 lanes the one on the left is for going left or straight across and the one on the right is for turning right....why then do some drivers use the right lane for cutting you up and going straight across?

I think that some drivers simply do not care. I think that some drivers have a confidence about the other drivers not wanting to collide with them that despite aggresive/ crazy driving they won't be hit. I think the nutcase driver may be more clever than we think and is aware that they can be 'read' by other drivers and relies on regular drivers to avoid accidents with them. Of course their luck will run out one day... but the longer they avoid accidents the more this reinforces their belief that other drivers will avoid accidents with them despite their reckless driving.

Round my way there's a busy roundabout that they've recently changed the markings for, so that the left lane is for turning left and the right lane is for either straight on or going right.....At rush hour most people need to go straight on.....oh it's so much fun! Not!

A few weeks ago I saw an elderly couple in the next lane enter the roundabout without looking til they crossed the line, slam their brakes on because someone was coming round, then go a bit more, then slam their brakes on again, all the while looking dazed and confused as though they didn't know how a roundabout works *sigh*

It comes down to one thing, LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.

I have a major roundabout close to my home where the drivers are hopeless, yet on the other side of the City, they have erected a sign, "how to use a roundabout." just before a major roundabout.
I have used this roundabout hundreds of times and all that use it do so correctly.

All major roundabouts are marked before the roundabout, the arrows will show whether the right lane is right turn only, or right turn AND straight ahead.
Unmarked are right or straight ahead

If there a two lanes on your exit from the roundabout the driver in the right hand lane can use the right hand lane to manoeuvre parallel to the driver in the left hand lane. As you observed, there are some people who do not know how to use a roundabout.

If the second exit (i.e. straight ahead) has two lanes then it is perfectly acceptable to use the right hand lane.

What really annoys me is the number of drivers who do not indicate left off the roundabout. Traffic would flow much quicker if people observed this simple rule in the Highway Code.

Sorry, but i think it IS your fault. On a two-lane roundabout, the driver in the right-hand lane can go staight across. It sounds to me as though you are the one who is wandering over to the right.

Because they are stupid and don't bother to learn how to use the roads properly.
I hate people who try to cut in by doing this.
